In contrast Elis I did hear from commentary that they are the first ever Indian side to make five centuries in a test v England.? Revealing article about Bumrah on the BBC sport site.

the middle order down , really worries me for the indians for the series , there is no runs there, bumrah coming in at 8 , , the pressure is too much for jaiswahl, rahul, gill and pant, hope im wrong ,

I mean yeah hence Shardul but me made no runs and was not given the ball. He should have been given a chance with a hard ball. If Gill does not trust him they should as I have stated before play Reddy instead. He is a good batsman and can deliver 10 nondescript overs.
The big problem is 20 wickets. They need to play Kuldeep as an attacking option to help Bumrah. So instead of that I would have Kuldeep in place of Shardul but bring in Druv Jurel who is proven and technically proficient in place of Sudhardsan who is a talent but with an obvious weakness that was picked off twice quite easily.
Nair is good but if he does not score runs next match I would bring Reddy in his place. He has great technique too.
England batting is good but there is no replacement for Crawley
Bring in Atkinson and Archer for Woakes and Tongue. Tongue can switch with Carse for the 4th Test. Wood may be ready for the 5th. Tongue can also replace Archer for the 3rd. Good rotation.

Agree regarding the heavy roller as the complexion could change after it wears off , be surprised if Jadeja isn't a key component overall sometime during the day.

I wouldn't be too quick to knee jerk anything into the bottom half Indian innings collapses , it's happened twice in succession yes but i'd want to see far more elongated evidence than that tbh , such is the sport you can bet the bottom half will bail the team out sometime in this series , they can all bat just not in the last two innings.

Like I said they need Kuldeep and imho need to rejig their set up. They have two very good batsmen on the sidelines Jurel and Reddy.
Not sure about that HaydenPlenty of fore shadowing about this. Like I said they need Kuldeep and imho need to rejig their set up. They have two very good batsmen on the sidelines Jurel and Reddy.
i backed india a few days back and have cashed out for a small loss.
overall in profit though as my two bets on indian runs in first innings both landed.

It's a funny old game sage with the old adage being a better player would have got a touch.
Got me thinking back to the Gooch pair vs Walker & Thomson but Goochy didn't turn out too bad a test player.

If England win this does it mean we'll need to retract criticism of Stokes inserting the opposition , after all he's on record as stating he loves a chase
Also if England do prevail it'll only be correct in praising their performance rather than hitting on the negatives of India's performance.

I've responded to the Rokeby Bowl question , you've a good memory mate

I know next-to-nothing about the mechanics behind WinViz but it is staggering how out of line the market and WV often are.
Yesterday, WinViz draw was 5% and the draw price was 4.2.
Right now: England and India exactly even for WinViz (41%) whilst England are 1.54 and India 5.9.

If England collapse he reverts to being chit captain..
I think stokes is prepared to try new stuff but is he captain or taking instruction from coach.
Brearley was far and away best captain as he understood the psychological game too, tis pity his game wasnt up to his captaincy.
Collingwood was a good captain, clever cricket.

they were gifted the advantage to bat first by Stokes. They got into great batting positions twice and wasted them plus have dropped several catches at crucial times.
Good to see Crawley batting with such reserve and resolve

india have a problem in that they cannot bowl england out as the bowling depth wise is simply not good enough.
there batting outside the top 4 so far is ropey and their fielding in this test has been shoddy.
the captain is showing his inexperience also- strange reviews and field positioning. looks like england will win this comfortably
they must improve

Hard to disagree with that summary Dragon but this is Cricket and we all know that in the next test on a different track and even without making any changes the bowling might be good enough , they may hold on to every catch and the middle to lower order may score plenty of runs.
It's why we love the game and also a valid enough reason to never lay high nor back low.

The match could still resemble a T20 game later who knows but at least it's become a very probable two way stretch now as losing 10 wickets is unthinkable.

Its worse than that. They had by far the best of the conditions and if they can't bowl England out on the 5th day they will struggle in future matches particularly with Atkinson and Archer back

Great thread full of different opinions , exchanging of views and varying betting strategies , a pleasure to be involved.
Not a semblance of any abuse or insults just because someone disagrees with another ( not sure whether there was anyone absent that could have upset the apple cart )
Note to other more argumentative forums = it can be done
Until the next time , good luck all

Tremendous win for England. They really are shaping up nicely for The Ashes with Atkinson, Archer and Woods to come back!
Batting line up looks good with Bethell chomping on the side.
I think we lack a top class spinner but maybe Bashir will benefit from bouncier pitches in Aus.
As for Stokes, none of the England Captains mentioned would have wrung out a win like that none!

Great win and well done WD. Probably right about other captains in this game so I will defer to your opinion, but as Hayden implied earlier , they are different times and the resulting strategies after 20/20 is enormous. Really Happy England won , but still not convinced Stokes is the best English Cricket captain of all time, but will happily change my view if he carries on like this for the next few years. As an aside I think he threw his wicket away today and it could of been costly

For me it is a little like Winston Churchill won WW2...
Not the Russia who smashed the Nazis or the Americans whose fire power finally defeated them.
All in all we are privileged to see them all and imho lucky to have Stokes after years of 30-3 and 40-4. Not saying I didn't enjot the other Captains either. In fact I am quite often at odds with Stokes decisions and strategies

Lovely couple of hours listening to TMS , luckily I didnt post on here as got everything wrong . Was born a six hit away from the ground and used to attend regularly , glad to see the pitch is a bit fairer these days.

It was a great win because they made a mistake at the toss and gave India the best conditions of the match and the pitch to bat on then came back thrice when nearly batted out of the game. Make no mistake it was a great win with two fasts bowlers to come back into the side

must be at least half a dozen wins under stokes often from seemingly hopeless positions at various stages of matches which no other england team would have won. i get that times have changed with much faster scoring rates achievable but you do have to get the 20 wickets as well

Yeah, I’d forgotten about the toss error. Still feel India went too kamikaze too soon late on. Next test certainly interesting if we get the same enterprise from both sides.

India's top order must be devastated after losing that game. Over the two innings, their first 5 wickets were worth 780 runs whereas their last 5 wickets only added only 55 runs in total, quite remarkably bad. If any of their lower order could hold a bat they would not have lost that game. Stokes got out of jail really. I'm not a fan of bazball and the way England played yesterday shows it doesn't always have to be deployed.

I agree with you Dixie. Even with the value of hindsight Stokes said h3 would not have changed his call in the First Test. We have seen the consequences of that arrogance and ignorance in this Test.
India were nearly out of sight 3 times in the first game. It is a credit to Stokes England won that game but before they did India let them back in 3 times.
Further consequences are the wear and tear on his players nit jus5 the bowlers. He has also given the Indian batters opportunities to gain confidence.
I would never call for Stokes to resign or not to do things his way but if he does not acknowledge his mistakes privately i5 is a serious flaw.
Never go back, never say you are sorry and never admit you are wrong by all means but do not tell me you would make the same call again!
Still a battting day or rather no demons yet.I agree with you Dixie. Even with the value of hindsight Stokes said h3 would not have changed his call in the First Test. We have seen the consequences of that arrogance and ignorance in this Test.India w
