think he'll be relieved to let someone else have a go. always seemed a fairly reluctant skipper and doesn't have much feel for the game

don't like criticising a fellow yorkie but he is an appalling captain & his batting is deteriorating at an increasing rate

He is tactically inept. He's over used Archer who had to go off with what looked like a hamstring problem and then allowed him back,in the outfield

where clearly he could do himself a more serious injury. Hapless!

He seems to have no common sense either. Like bowling Archer into the ground and not realising he might actually tire? which causes injuries?

But he had a fast toy to play with as someone pointed out in the test thread, he wasn't letting it go to waste

Feel sorry for Archer, his speed has been abused and he might now be out for the remainder of the series

I'd have been tempted to maybe over bowl him at Lords after his bombardment of Smith, but would have worked out to take him off eventually and wrap him up

A bullet bowler like that needs to be used tactically, bring him on in bursts

Losing an away Ashes 4-0 and the way things are going will lose this one 4-0 as well.
Can't blame it entirely on him but there's no way his captaincy can survive this.

I say this as huge Root fan, best batsman I've seen play for England but he's not a true leader and his batting is suffering for it.

Only other captaincy option is Stokes, nobody else in this team is really guaranteed a place in the starting XI

Pity Joss has floundered with bat lately as he seems captain material in same vein as Morgs, authoratitive without being shouty.  He may be playing his last test.

Maybe Joss could be a specialist captain (until he finds his mojo), Mike Brearly had shocking stats after all.

And Jos can have the gloves back ...........yeah I'm going with Jos!

Been very poor as skipper and will be under pressure after this series. Still our best bat though and not his fault the media bullied him into batting at three so he's basically opening which is not where you want your top bat. Should be back at 4. Stick Denly or whoever replaces him at 3 for the last two tests.

if there's anyone with anthing about them at all in the management and selectors surely foakes is keeping wicket for the foreseeable. been treated abominably. 100 in his 1st test then dropped 3 games later. none of the untouchables in the side would be treated like that in a million years. jonny bairstow will be very lucky to survive this. his form has been simply awful for the last 2 years

As I said a few games ago, this is the worst Eng batting lineup EVER.
People laughed and pointed to the times when we had 4 number 11s
We might not have that now but the rest are an absolute disgrace
4 totals under 100 in the last few years and many other disgusting efforts.
At least Athers, Stewy, Thorpe and Nas dug in and tried to battle in adversity
This lot should have their caps burnt and be banished to obscurity
