when you see it spin against non Sub continental sides you have to have a punt.
You might lose occasionally but over time you will clean up.
I try to play percentages with scenarios like that

This is looking dire for NZ. the only consolation is that NZ are batting first and do have 3 spinners as well (though Santa is not really a spinner in the sense that he gets turn and bounce).

Good quote on CrocInfo -The reason why New Zealand are still in this, and maybe even marginally ahead at this stage,
is because of BJ Watling. If New Zealand are the team that do great things that barely get noticed in the wider cricket world,
BJ Watling is the New Zealand of New Zealand.

I like that. His average is 37 and his highest score 142 and he's starting fresh this morning,
so we should probably ignore the 60 odd runs he's already put on. I don't understand how CrocInfo's stats work though.
Are the highest and the average score measured per innings or per match?

The pitch has slowed down and the bounce is slightly less. The bounce can normally be more of a problem than the slow spin. I did think SL would get more first innings runs as they are used to the conditions.

Taken a speculative punt on the draw blind. Small bet just because this is Lanka

Report Whisperingdeath August 17, 2019 8:41 AM BST
probably just speculation.

As " crcoinfo " says 250 only been breached 4 times.

The pitch can " die " which might make it difficult to score on particularly if the bounce gets low and you have to play the line more so than the length. If the weather comes in and I am not saying it will then an interesting situation would occur that might leave people clamouring to cover their positions but they shoul have done that at 24's so let's see what happens. Can't see Lanka screaming away against the new ball to make it interesting.
Report Whisperingdeath August 17, 2019 10:07 AM BST
Could really do with some rain after tea to make this interesting.

When the ball goes softer it should grip more but then gain after 35-40 will it be soft and slower. The ball is not spitting off the pitch yet. I just would like these batsmen to stay in to give the market some thought although I expect NZ to win eventually. Matthews could be key for Lanka

I do not want to see reverse sweeps ffs!

Report Whisperingdeath August 17, 2019 11:09 AM BST
Gosh that was a sharp turn around!

I left 2.8 NZ hanging to cover my NZ red and it shot up to 3.3!

I got a small back of NZ now. A wicket will turn this exchange upside down.Still keeping my draw green as a Hail Mary.

I think it is too early to make any conclusions here. SL could bat out the next session as it will be curtailed because of the light but tomorrow I expect the pitch to rip up a little with bounce being the danger. We have see a couple of balls from Sommers lift sharply and take chunks out of the pitch.

I couldn't hold my nerve but am glad my NZ red is clear.

I think SL are well shirt at the current time. Yes on paper it looks like they are strolling this but this is SRI LANKA home of the Great Rangana!

Probably going to load up on NZ as the game progresses. Matthews is my key man for a Lanka win. Karunaratne is looking good but it only takes one ball or piece of luck to change the game. Hopefully I can jump on some swings of misfortune as I am almost red free at the mopment.
