I think it was a really bad beat, in fact. Can’t quite recall but fairly confident I got at least 1.25 on Aus, which felt massive. They did it one wicket down, with over 6 overs left though!

This is such an awesome England batting line up. This pair are the marginally slow ones and they’re both brilliant. If you were to be hyper critical you’d say Root doesn’t quite have the gears you might want trying to set or chase a huge score (but he glues it together so well) and Ali at 7 has slightly underperformed his talent (although not got a load of chances and capable of going nuts) but I can’t think of a better ODI batting line up since the vintage Aus side that kept winning World Cups with Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting, Waugh, Brevan etc. and actually, this side has much better numbers, obviously in a different era. I know I keep saying it but Hales is first or maybe second pick standard batting for every other side in the world barring maybe India and he’s on the bench.

They just keep hitting but it doesn’t go wrong very often on decent batting surfaces. Buttler is arguably the best batsman we have and he and Stokes lurk around 5 and 6 with Ali at 7, the massively decent Woakes at 8 then the more than decent Plunkett and Rashid at 9 and 10. They’ll fizzle now and again and anything can happen in knock out game but they’ll take a lot of beating.

Yep, that’s my approach. I got absolutely roasted by that hideous Cardiff game against Pakistan a couple of years ago. I even tutted a bit.
