Joe Root and Ben Stokes are among 282 overseas players who will be part of this year's Indian Premier League auction. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed the player auction for the 11th IPL is set for January 27-28 in Bangalore with eight teams bidding for 1,122 players. England Test captain Root is a new IPL entrant after opting to play for England in their T20 tri-series against Australia and New Zealand.
Haven't had a full look through the squads but on my first impressions, KKR have had a shocker! Only have a squad of 19 players and spent the bulk of their budget on players with terrible fitness records.

MI and SRH have the best squad imo. KKR with the worst squad Delhi the dark horses for me, outsiders in the betting currently but with a decent looking squad.

I think Root was a deliberate snub to English cricket. Surprised him and Johnny Bstard were not picked. Also Hales is a good opener and I think would have done well on India's flat tracks.
There is som much competition in India I am looking forward to see how the Indians have improved. They need top kwality fast bowlers and the odd muscle mary big hitter!
Could be wuite an exciting competition. Going to back runs lnes and 6 over totals mainly. certain sides at home too. Bet against the P farts if I can figure who they are. Simple formulaic betting! No instinct betting in IPL!
Will be backing CSK at home on spinning pitches!I think Root was a deliberate snub to English cricket. Surprised him and Johnny Bstard were not picked. Also Hales is a good opener and I think would have done well on India's flat tracks. There is som m
Surprised Whispers is tweeting on IPL I thought he thought it was all a squalid affair that is destroying world cricket. I agree on Hales he is better than Roy is my view.

I stand by earlier statements on the squalidity and filth that is the IPL and its crash course of intent to destroy the art of batsmanship, however, where there is beauty ugliness is created!
Test Cricket is beautiful

No Pakistani's is a political thing. I fear it may have come from Government but also the IPL is a Cartel so there is probably an unwritten agreement amongst them not to recruit any.
I also think Root might have been similarly snubbed. Whatever his abilities I think he could have been a marketing delight for any franchise.
There were some strange picks indeed. On the plus side there are 5 or 6 India U19 players who have been signed including two young guns who have been clocked at mid 140's already!
Infact I am going to give it to you here first. I gave you Pant last year remember?

(Photo Source: ICC) “Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi” meaning ‘Where talent meets opportunity’ was the major objective of the Indian Premier League when it was founded. The BCCI wanted IPL to be a stage where youngsters can exhibit their talent. These golden words in Sanskrit are beautifully embedded on the IPL trophy in the ‘Devanagari script’.
Although there were many Indian and foreign players who emerged from this platform, the tagline seems to be forgotten in the recent times. The cash-rich league evolved into a much bigger stage than what it was destined to be. It is much more than a cricketing platform and has taken the whole world by a storm. Even though a few youngsters are picked in the IPL, they hardly get a chance to feature in the playing eleven.
All the teams compete very hard to win the glorious title. In the process, the motto of the IPL is ignored. It is such a prestigious league that all the blame can’t be put on the franchises alone.
However, in the mega-auction this year, there were a few franchises that followed the young cricketers keenly. They spent some big bids on them which is very encouraging. Few of them are the Under-19 players who are representing India at the World Cup in New Zealand. The U-19 team is performing brilliantly and have reached the semi-finals.
Five U-19 players were picked in the auction today and they will already be keen to do well for their franchises.
Here is the list of U-19 players sold at the IPL auction 2018:

Some of these boys are kwality and may come through as early as this IPL
There is a 16yo Afghan as well!
I can understand why some marquee names are not required. I do think Hales would do a massive job on these wickets.

Pakistani's played in 1st IPL in 2008 then Mumbai terror attack took place later that year, no Pakistani's ever since though Wasim Akram was a coach after that and Rameez Raja has had commentary gigs.
Further complicating the picture in december 2012 India invited Pakistan to India to play 3 1dayers so the excuse of Mumbai 2008 Terror for Pakistan being frozen out in tests & IPL doesn't stand up. India is now very nationalistic country

I do love Indian Cricket at the moment but I really hate the racist sentiments coming from that country and religious intolerance but let's save that for another thread!
Grant you are a Grass! I am going to send Hamlin up to git you!

Sad that Pakistan still not allowed. They have had the best T20 bowlers in the world. And I think they're ranked number 1 at the moment? I also remember Sohail Tanvir's first IPL. Played 5 games less than the others and I think still ended up highest wicket taker.
Yes its a government thing. Cricket is big in the subcontinent so its a political weapon as well.
And Indians aren't banned from PSL. They are simply not allowed by the BCCI to play any other league(I may be wrong but I think that's the way it is)
