Pitch looks good for batting once the green has had a snip. Big scores in first class in the last couple of years and Eng are more than capable of putting on a decent score if put in first. Draw very unlikely but as a trading point of view this price is massive. I've smashed the draw at 5.9/8 on a draw back to lay. G.L all |

That's green for an Indian pitch. Not what I was expecting. The groundsman has said some b0ll0x about more dew than usual. More likely is India rate their batting as better on a decent pitch.

A decent pitch would suit India no ends if they lost the toss. Whenever Eng hit 350+ first innings away from home it's always a draw, India will be happy with that. Not saying it's a 350 pitch but at least it not looking like a raging turner from day/over 1.

I wanted to back N.Z this morning at 19.5 during the break in a quick overaction trade but had no confidence in Guptill/N.Z lasting 2 or more overs. They ended up hitting 20 without loss after 2 chasing the 2nd highest run total and went from 18s to 9s

Wankhede pitch will start turning from the third day, says curator Mumbai, by Gaurav Gupta • Last updated on Mon, 05 Dec, 2016, 06:35 AM Ramesh Mamunkar, the curator at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, which will stage the fourth Test between India and England from Thursday, has already started shaving the grass and reducing watering the pitch - the two factors which contribute to the making of a turning pitch. "It should turn from second day evening, or at least by the third day . There's heavy dew these days, so we're watering the pitch less. We've cut the grass a bit too, so that the wicket bears a fresh look for the Test," Mamunkar told TOI on Sunday, while denying that he had received any instructions from the Indian team about preparing a spin-friendly pitch. Since it was re-launched in 2011 after undergoing complete renovation, Wankhede has hosted three Tests. Two of them provided a result, while the third ended in a thrilling draw. The last Test here in 2013 was Sachin Tendulkar's farewell game, against the West Indies. On that occasion, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha took 10 wickets to script a crushing innings victory inside three days for India. Since then, though, the Wankhede pitch has acquired a notorious reputation for being too flat -possibly the best batting pitch in the country , where the ball comes onto the bat nicely, Mamunkar, who has assisted the former India opener for the past four years, is now the sole caretaker of the turf. "We make batsman-friendly pitches for ODI and T20 games, but it'll obviously be different for a Test. It'll be a sporting, fair pitch, with good `carry .' The ball will move here on the first day , as it always does here. The second day will be good for batting, before the spinners come into the picture," he recalled. Traditionally, the red soil at the Wankhede helps spinners, particularly left-arm spinners, which means Ravindra Jadeja may become a huge factor. Previously, Murali Kartik and Pragyan Ojha have excelled at Wankhede. I am wondering if the traditional pace and carry might actually help England here particularly in disposing of of the Klingons in the India lower middle order. Ashwin and Jajega have beaten England with the bat as much as the ball.
It is a shame we will not have a left arm spinner here. It may be useful. I am wondering if batting second may prove to be a big advantage? |

I think that they have shaved some grass off the top makes it less likely for a first morning collapse against any possible seam movement. If they survive the new ball on a fresh pitch conditions for batting probably look not just good but very good for at least the first couple of days, certainly India and probably England too are likely to scoree well in excess of 400 to put fears of a flat pitch to the test. Early birds have been nibbling at the draw so some are loathe to expose themselves at 6's. |

I would not be laying the draw at 5s. Either team especially Eng make a good start tomorrow morning and the draw will crash to 3.5s in no time.

Thanks WD. I just dont trust Englands batting enough fro a draw back to lay. I got stung in the last test doing the same. Im definately going to wait and watch in this test..

I would say that all things considered I'd like to lay India at 1.59 but I haven't considered all things. Will lay at 1.59 if I can.

That break in Dubai may have freshened Eng up without, I might lay India if Eng bat 1st but may wait until they are 1, 2 or even 3 down to do that, parachuting in Keaton Jennings you would think he will likely fail, Cook has also looked poor recently.

I'm not ready to write England off despite the recent debacle, nor am I afraid to lay the draw at 5. Draw lay and go away for me.

I have a feeling England will put in a good performance too probably at the Wankhede. India are a better side in India but England are pretty decent. India owe a lot to their lower order for their wins. I just feel this pitch " likely " to offer more pace and bounce will help England. The Indian batting still looks a little fragile at times and as I said before the pace and bounce might help England winkle the lower order.
Batting first should be an advantage but if you dont score the runs it will count against you. |

Getting time for bed and 1.59 nowhere in sight. Draw odds about 5 and England odds shortened to about 4.85. Both of which don't tempt me. Only leaves a back of India at around 1.67 which I'm not enamoured with but have had a dabble.

Not much agreement here chaps. Personally, I can't see batting last as other than a disadvantage, unless this is over in 3 days after England take early wickets bowling first. Might happen, but I'm not going to bet on it. |

This is going to turn. The cracks will come into play as it is very very dry. At least, the ball will come onto the bat for the first two days. For the first session, the ball will go off the pitch much better compared to Mohali. You will be able to make it awkward for the batsmen if you bend your back as a seamer. It is going to turn, may be by the end of the day. This what Sunny G has to say about the turf.
