Scratch that. Hasn't been many draws at the Oval ground in recent times. It's a result venue.

Don't think Cook will be making any sporting declarations like he did yesterday.

Rain affected draw with Australia in 2013 aside (the one where Pup went crying to the umpires about the light after positively giving England a chaseable target in a dead rubber 3-0 down in the series, notably also Woakes' debut batting at 6), you have to go back to 2007 against India for a draw. That was a pretty flat deck but neither side had a lot of cutting edge in the bowling by comparison with now either.
Am going for a draw lay to start with here but may back later if prices go out, as I expect. You often see big first innings scores at The Oval. |

I was at that game on the last day! Brilliant day of Test Cricket. Sporting declaration by Cry Baby Clarke. Was definately playable for the last 4 overs or whatever was left. Rules is rules even when they are wong but I was saying to myself all afternoon that England need to get a hurry up on here in case of a bad light call.
I thought footballers were stupid! Cricket Captains do not seem to take into account the weather. One who did was Surreys own Stuart Surridge. The opposition were all out for 30 something. He declared at just over 100 and bowled the other side out again in a day for an innings victory. All the other games were rained off no result and this contributed to Sirrey winning the Championsip. They don't mak'em like that any more! Has anybody sat in the OCS stand at the Oval right behind the bowlers arm? 90 Sovs for a ticket for Thursday. May be a tightwad and just go for £20 on Monday. Terry do you fancy a Monday jolly? Not seen pitch reports but I suspect a good batting strip. I am kind of keen on an end of term bore draw. Will wait and see of course. |

But don't listen to me about the pitch
![]() While there have been reports that The Oval pitch will suit England in the final Test, with pace and bounce, recent evidence has been of it offering some help for the spinners. The last time England played two spinners in a home Test was at The Oval, against Australia in 2013, when Simon Kerrigan made his debut. Might be a bat first pitch! |

I wish there were more captains like that Surrey chap. Captains tend to forget its just a game at the end of the day. unless of course they are Salman Butt and have more at stake.
Been reading about prospect theory. Quite interesting. |

Cook will look to secure the series so I have layed Pakistan.

Isn't it likely to be, whichever team wins the toss will bat 1st & has the chance to score 400+ if they bat well?
|
|
By:
yes

don't think i'd wanna be laying england if pakistan win the toss and bat first. devastating blow losing at edgbaston after making the running for so much of the game and can they really post a good 1st innings score 2 matches in a row ? 4 times out of 6 they've been shot out for around 200

Pitch and conditions
As before the Ashes Test at The Oval last year, a distinctly green-tinged pitch was on show and Cook suggested it would be "suited to pace bowling", with some turn later on. A 3-1 series win for England will send them top of the rankings, at least until the completion of India's tour of the West Indies. England to go for the win. A chance to go number 1 in the rankings is not to be turned down. Pakistan need to make some changes. Hafeez and Khan could do with being dropped. |

No rain forecast and a greenish pitch and I'd expect the draw to drift, but it hasn't.
|
|

I think that England will win this one, Pakistan looked stunned and tired on Sunday after England turned a losing position into a win. I don't see Pakistan being able to recover from that.

Forecast is clear, pitch is green (supposedly, will wait for confirmation), looks like an England win
