Australia at 1.17. Too short I think. WI batting can be good in patches, and a Starcless Aus bowling attack not that threatening.
Hobart pitch generally good for seamers first day or 2 then reasonably good for batting. A bit of rain in the forecast.
WI could look a decent chance at some point, and trade much shorter than their current 20s. OTOH touring teams rarely do well first match in Aus. But no one ever got rich backing short pre-match Test match odds.

Wow, yes, don't rate WI and Aus always a difficult proposition away even for good sides but if you can get onto WI at 26 that seems pretty crazy long.

Yes that's sometimes the case in NZ and have been caught out once or twice before.
Thankfully Tyco very kindly puts us in the picture regarding weather during these matches, a little local knowledge is extremely helpful. |

I'm with pxb and FS on this. Aussies at about 1.16 are a lay (I'd prefer a Windies back but at time of posting there's no money at good odds for that).
It's probably not a question of whether Aussies will will or not, but whether WI can win an early session or two. |

Yes, I suppose it's a bit worrying backing a team you don't really feel has a whelk's chance in a supernova but starting at 26 or up, it would have to be a pretty bad start for the price to go too far North of that for a no options loss of your money. The question is more how do you make the most of a good WI start when you fully expect it to go nipples up in due course. I'll probably have a lay of them at 15 or so hoping to put me slightly green on draw and Aus win still leaving a lot of green on WI for later. Not being awake if WI bowl is a downside though as could easily miss better odds if they say get Aus 50/3.

There's always a chance that the pitch might be a bit of a dog in Hobart. NZ beat Aus there on a poor pitch a couple of years ago.
A crap pitch is a big leveller. |

Would be fair to say West Indies are the weakest side in Test cricket without their major drawcards. Yeh, difficult one to trade. All you can really do is get some green on WI and the draw, and hope it's not a train starting at 1.15.

If Australia start 1.15 in all 3 matches, the natural play is to lay them, still think at least 1 of these 3 matches, they will trade above 1.65+ or so. (only needs 1-2 good partnerships from the Windies, a bit of rain lurking around, or a few quick wickets from the West Indies fast bowlers). I also think West Indies strength lies more so in their bowling than their batting. Can't remember the last time Australia trained a series.

Test cricket, even between ill matched sides, generally isn't a train. Not that I'm confident I'll get my jumping off points right even if WI have a good session or two early on. Will depend on how stubborn the market is too.

Aussie price already a train. Yes you are right FS, it looks too short and there are always likely to be fluctuations but the danger of laying from the outset is getting locked in if Aus get off to a good start.
What I will do is put up several backs of Aus at around 1.35 to 1.50 and hope to be matched during the night. That way avoiding the above risk but potentially missing out. If I miss out this time, like the buses, there will be another along soon. Will also have a dabble in the runs market if the price is right. |

No weather issues!
The West Indies attack can hold its own on a good day and Aussie wickets will help them to a large degree. They could quite easily skittle Aussie in favourable conditions. The big problem is that not only will they have to do it twice in the same match, their batting must hold up at least once and perhaps that is where the question mark lies. My only ray of hope is that the Authorities may want games to go beyond 3 days and may shave a little bit of extra grass. That may not work either as WI have the faster bowlers and a couple of lanky ones. Maybe go for a small stake laying Aus if they bat first or perhaps the sagest move would be to follow the NZ SL game instead! |

Have laid Australia as weather forcast became slightly worse overnight with showers now Friday and Saturday and should get at least one half decent windies partnership, so 1.15 lay seems a reasonable lay !!!

Showers tomorrow shouldn't affect the match. Any lost overs will be made up.
Hopefully WI win toss and bat. So I can get a look at the new Aus bowling line, before I get some needed sleep. |

Yeah, having layed Australia and back WI, the keeper dropping Warner in the second over is a bit of a blow. Could probably have got some action down at 11 or 12s if he'd held it.
