Interesting to see how SL bounce back after the first Test, I am expecting some improvement.
No rain about in Wellington, but bad light may come into things late every day.
5 draws here out of last 10 tests at the basin. Only 2 of those results were hugely effected by rain.
8 from 10 the winner of the toss has sent the other team in, however, of the 5 results that has backfired, with 4/5 tests being won by the team being sent in, and the 5th match involved Bangladesh so can be taken with a grain of salt.
Average first inns total from last ten 351.5

Is draw a real possibility even without weather interruption? Beginning to look it and of course NZ only need to draw so can just bat all day
Yeah, that crossed my mind too. McCullum is an attacking captain tactically, but strategically he'll be happy to bat all day in this situation.

I saw a similar scenario to this but I think it will end in a result and I am not around to cash in at the right time so i took a walk away here. This Williamson is top quality and could bat long. I stated previously the grass could hold the pitch together, Good luck whoever is playing this one.

Your right there whispering that Williamson is top quality. And only 23/24 years old. I really think he should/would make any world 11. NZ well served by him the last 2-3 years
cant work out why the draw is so low. McCullum will declare overnight if it gets to it.

NZ will not declare until game is v safe. They are 1-0 up in a 2 match series on a pitch that is getting better not worse. For there to be a result NZ need to be bowled out.
Don't know Mister Fish, McCullum can be attacking and he will be keen to see how Craig performs. But ok maybe my scenario was a bit aggressive.

"Dropped catches are a part of the game," Yousuf said. "They batted very well after that. But it's difficult to win when you drop them. If we hadn't dropped catches we could have won it. We have dropped a lot over the last few months, but we can't help it. We try hard in practice."

Look at Oz v India today, perfect example.
Only reason they'll be result will be fast batting and an agressive declaration.

Well being 1-0 up in the series there's no real incentive for them to make an aggressive declaration here. They may well just bat and bat and bat
Agree with you BJT, but not enough runs at this stage I think. 25 to go. So say they get 45 runs in the next 15, gives them a lead of 400 for SL to get in 10+90 overs... Yeah on second thoughts, that is workable. THat probably is what it will be.
To be fair.. my position is hoping for a draw as that is my biggest green by far. So I will be ready to lay the draw if and when necessary.

I would expect they play for a result. NZ are an aggressive team like Aus, and without being stupid about it, will back their bowlers to do a job. Especially against a mob that has been simply going through the motions of 300+ run partnership, their minds won't be ready, so spring a declaration on them and give them 10 minutes to get out there. Probably skittle 2 of them tonight and all of a sudden 8 wickets, 90 overs to get 370 or so tomorrow.
yeah that was my initial though too. Get the 150/250 give them a 400 run lead and retire the innings.

Thats the way I am viewing it. I managed to lay some draw at 2.18 on the dec, but that was totally unexpected. Gonna be hard to win this one for NZ I think.
10 minutes gone, so what 16 overs left today? 106 overs, 3.68 runs an over, and the game is theirs. Fully expect them to start off by playing for the win, not going silly, but playing as if they are chasing a score, not batting out time.

Run rate is key really. Only so far draw can go, has to really go up and down depending on RR and RRR. Wickets likely to slow the RR down cancelling out. Play has to be laying NZ, and getting out before a wicket. All about timing, when they start making runs.
Exposed here with a lay on NZ. Need this price to jump pretty soon. No wickets please.

Long slow day on Aus test, switch over here, and made a days wages, as long as I don't dip in again. Which of course I will. lol. Either way, I am 90% out now. Nothing huge, but a nice green all the same.
3.75 an over. Only gone up .07 runs an over needed. Non important tonight, what is important is not losing a wicket. Freshen up coming into tomorrow with NZ on the back foot knowing they didn't capitilise, and may have dangled the carrot too close to arms reach. Then, attack the score tomorrow. Either way, the price has moved, probably good for another 15 minutes or so before anything else happens, usually the case. Matter of waiting for the train to leave the station, and jumping on board as it is taking off,

All 3 options still very live tomorrow, which will be good considering Aus market probably still stale batting most of tomorrow also. Could be some good money on offer.

Morning Tyco, Is this rain going to last long enough to cause panic in the market. The nz met have predicted drizzle up until 12pm and then a brighter afternoon. Thinking of backing the draw to lay of when the crash comes to reduce my draw red from initial lay of around 4.0. Cant believe this test is still going and I am staring down the barrel of a big loss if its a draw. Still think a result is possible as teams have chased down totals recently, or sri lanka get bowled out. Pak chased 300 odd in 50 overs at the start of the year to beat sri lanka, India were well on the way in 1st test v aus. Sri lanka might as well go down 2-0 as 1-0.

Sounds as if they wont be starting on time, that low wellington mizzle they get is hanging around, the local topography makes it tricky, it can be slow to clear
it did this a few years ago, the famous radar evading mizzle that caught so many out
may be a slight delay but covers coming off shortly - run up is fine. looks ideal for bowling - that's according to ian smith getting ready in commentary box - in fact covers are coming off as i write

Just got out in time. Might just about do it for this game. Hopefully Aus get skittled or declare or something so the odds move before declaration 15 overs before stumps... 
I don't understand the draw odds here. SL are definitely not playing for a draw.

50 overs left in day these 2 batters are capable and i think they have to bat at least 35 overs together, even if they only score 1 run per over it does not matter they have to bat for there country and not some selfish goal, you know lendusafiver
Think we may see a declaration before tea here. Wicket spinning, plenty of runs on the board. Think they may fancy themselves to get 4-5 before the close of play today. 500 run lead, declaration. He declared too late a couple of times last time, and couldn't win, think he gets more aggressive this time.
wheres all the rain gone??? u just a bunch of guessers stitching people up on here getting them to back the draw so u can profit on sum1 else's misery....SL just as big an embarrasement as my team india. both really shocking sides who shud just play white ball cricket outside of the sub continent.....if not just pack the side with 11 batters, because they rarely take 20 wkts in a test match...soap box rant over!!!...why sky didn't show the presentaion is anyones guess bunch of ****s!!!!
That was very disappointing from Sri Lanka. I was at the ground yesterday and the amount of wickets that fell due to rash shots and rushes of blood to the head was criminal. THey should have easily batted out for a draw but gifted this game to NZ. Maybe the psychology of what happened to them the day before hurt so much. I dont know but really that was bizarre.
