A 7 match series, so not yet a dead rubber (which I had assumed).
Pallekelle conditions may suit England's seamers a bit better than down on the coast, but Eng have never played an ODI here before. Might have a dabble on Eng, despite Cook playing. |

big congratulations to the selectors for playing stokes on a two paced turner and not having tredwell in the side, and then dropping stokes and selecting tredwell on a wicket that seams.
beyond facking belief. |
By:
Yeah - playing Stokes instead of Tredwell in Colombo was nuts. However dropping Stokes
now has got to be the right decision - seriously out of form with both ball and bat. |
By:
free money for someone laying kusal top bat!
By:
England have a good start can they capitalise on it?
By:
England doing well, At the moment
By:
have had plenty of chances to exert pressure just need another break think they are second favs to chase 240+
By:
Got the break what can they do now?
By:
miss easy run outs
By:
anyone remember the last time any of our death bowlers managed a half decent yorker?
By:
Bowling bonus balls now

jesus, the penny drops.....

40 overs of spin to come from Sri Lanka, 239 on this pitch, will in all probability be 30-40 too many for England.
By:
that blue lighting is making prior look like a junkie.
vital that england go hard early here and get in front of the rate, because it's game over if we can squeezed out of game after the first powerplay along with the possibility of rain. |
By:
What time do England bat at? tia.
By:
If it's a 20 over game say, what would England need to win? Anyone work it out, I don't think it would be very much
By:
148
By:
with 16 overs of spin. market drift assuming england's innings will be shortened is very wrong
![]() |
By:
If it's carried over till tomorrow will they play the SL innings again?
By:
think so
By:
I'm a little in the dark regarding the reserve day. Can someone in the know explain pls. Will the bet be void (billyhills) or will the bet run over to tomorrows new game
By:
My understanding is play will carry on tomorrow ie England will chase same target
By:
So the bet will run on as well
By:
i think they start from scratch tomorrow don't they?
match odds market gets voided, and cmm runs through to tomorrow. might be wrong though. |
By:
pretty sure they'll complete whatever's left of today's game. a full 50 overs for england if no more play today or if they do restart today and come off again they'll finish that target
By:
Completed match market, any ideas of ruling anyone ?
By:
think you're right mafeking.
england will have to chase this down in 50 overs tomorrow. (weather & D/L dependent) |
By:
By:
So they will just need 20 overs for completed match?
By:
tomorrow
By:
If its a full 50 over match, I just can't see England winning, as England are not very good, playing spin bowling and Sri Lanka have 40 overs of spin available to them, plus a slow wicket, will also not help England.
By:
apparently highest chase ever required in pallekelle. on that basis will have to play well above themselves to win this one. hales and taylor will have to get england well above the rate at the start before the constant diet of spin no doubt ties us up in knots
By:
Hales, is not playing.
By:
meant ali of course
By:
Unfortunatly Cook, will open, hence we have little chance of getting above the run rate, let alone well above.
By:
England really should chase this down shouldn't they. The pitch is not a dust bowl. Just need two players to get a quick 20 or 30 each and the rest can just push the ball around.
By:
just 30, this is England! Run rate strategy of 4 for the first 20 overs n'est ce pas (circa 1990) still order of the day I'm afraid. Everyone else hits over the circle first power play. Cook will want to soften up the new ball with some serious forward defensives.
By:
By:
What I'm saying is if two players get a QUICK 20 or 30 the required rate for the rest will be just 4 an over or something.
