Long England batting line-up as well
Report cricketnut2 May 20, 2014 7:32 PM BST
A very competitive total, Malinga may be the only worry, but if he bowls 4 overs taking 2-25, England will need with say 5 extra's chucked in, in those 4 overs. 153 off 16 overs, unlikely I would say and the market is probably favouring Sri Lanka for value.

Slinger masterclass.
As for England, Root still living off his big score at Lords (where he was dropped early), meaning the batting order is wrong, we haven't found a replacement for Swann yet, we can't field because we're unfit, and we can't bowl death overs.
Otherwise, we're fine.
Report cardshark May 20, 2014 9:13 PM BST
4 off the 19h will never win
Report Dado7029 May 20, 2014 9:13 PM BST
Disgraceful that england didn't try the innovation, Carberry, Root and Morgan failed England from winning this today, could have won this without scoring too many off malinga

Could have easily found those extra runs with one big over in the middle overs.
Report cardshark May 20, 2014 9:20 PM BST
attacked all of the wrong balls at the wrong time with the wrong shots - same old story
Report paddletoe May 20, 2014 9:23 PM BST
For such a long batting line up they played far too negatively in the middle overs.
Report cricketnut2 May 20, 2014 9:24 PM BST
I can't say how anybody can say that was utterly poor from England. It was the fielding that was poor, little else. If they had caught Perera, INSTEAD OF DROPPING AN ABSOLUTE DOLLY, they wouldn't have been chasing 184. The batting was fairly good, I thought and not many teams chase down 184, which they shouldn't have been chasing. CATCHES WIN MATCHES, end of story
Report the silverback May 20, 2014 9:31 PM BST
That last Malinga over. Woakes in with 3 balls left, isn't it correct just to give him absolute license (yes, obviously much easier said that done but he can strike a good ball) rather than look for a single to get Bopara on strike to try for one attempt at a big shot before looking for another single to get him back on strike again.

The 1 Dot 1 to leave a miracle required was searingly inevitable. And with a different mindset Woakes may have connected with his first ball which was more hittable than almost any other Malinga ball today.
Report paddletoe May 20, 2014 9:31 PM BST
You always get the feeling with England no matter what total they are chasing they end up giving themselves too much to do with too much negative batting in the middle of the innings. Its easy to hit out near the end when you have nothing to lose.
Report paddletoe May 20, 2014 9:37 PM BST
That negative batting in the middle means they have to chase a total with 2 overs less when. With such a long batting line up would it not be better to have someone move up the order earlier whose job is to score at 2 a ball or get out trying.
Report cricketnut2 May 20, 2014 9:42 PM BST
Thats why England are rated lower than most, because they either go slow, at the start, or slow in the middle, or slow at the end. Were not very good, as I said England are more interested in the proper cricket.
Report cardshark May 20, 2014 9:43 PM BST
here's the problem...Carberry 7 / Bell 13 / Root 5 / Morgan 5 - 30 runs from 4 of our ' big shots ' and by the way these runs were off 62 balls. That's 7 overs to get 30 runs for 4 wickets !
Report cardshark May 20, 2014 9:44 PM BST
*42 balls
Report cricketnut2 May 20, 2014 9:58 PM BST
Why we are playing Ian Bell, at his age, baffles me and Joe Root, shouldn't be in the side either. Why don't they play Matt Prior, he doesn't keep for Sussex, so can field and bat, as he will score alot quicker than most, whilst Buttler is the obvious choice for scoring quick runs and wicketkeeping.
