I have thought this for a while but are teams missing a trick by making front line players captain? If there is a threat of being banned for slow over rates, why not make a fringe player captain (in name only). The 'usual' captain makes all the decisions etc but just isn't captain in name. That way if, they are banned, it doesn't affect the team too much.

Yes, so you simply tell one of your players "you are not required", and see how they perform....  Confused

I see what you are saying, but there is zero reason they should go over the rate anyway.  England were about 30 minutes over the other day.  Fcuking ridiculous.

The other option of course, is to rotate captaincy every game, or every time somebody is pulled up.  You don't do time unless 2 times in 12 months.  11 players in a team, maybe 15 play in a year, that is 15 times a year per format you can be pulled up for slow over rates.

I just think that the punishment doesn't really fit the crime... If India were to lose Dhoni, it would impact their team far more than losing a lesser player.

England are better off not worrying about this today arent they? Better to get decisions right today and lose Broad v Neth, than rush through today and still have that pressure if they make the semis??

That is my point though. Why not make Lumb captain (in name). Then England (broad) can take as long as he likes with decisions and bell replaces Lumb for the Netherlands game. (If a ban is handed out)

But a ban wouldn't be handed out, because it would be his first offence.

Why not just not drag ass?  If you want to be a captain, make a fcuking decision instead of having these ridiculous mothers club meetings every ball.

Presumably 'that's not cricket!'
