Hales was never likely to be bought. He virtually has to play as an opener, and so was competing in the auction with proven, experienced players like M. Hussey, McCullum, Watson etc. On top of that, his base price was way too high for a backup or potential for the future. Also, Hales isn't good enough.

yeah - he's really sh*t. in fact so sh*t he's rated second best T20 batsman in the world at the mo having been rated first. reason he didnt get picked was his base price was too high for a relatively unknown name. And IPL just loves names.
