Wonder what people are making of this game. I am thinking that a small back of NZ and a lay of the draw may be the way to go. I see that the prices for this game are a lot closer than game one where here India are the favourites just. I do not think their last performance justifies that. However it looks like Ross Taylor will be out for NZ (his wife is about to drop; a baby) and he will be a big loss. Talk either Tom Latham and or Martin Guptill to fill his boots. Should be an interesting game nevertheless.

Did we get the answer last summer?  I think he would have waited for the Umpire's decision.

Yeah. They do. Try playing some of the Bradford leagues. You and the umpires are nigh on bullied into walking/giving decisions.

I nearly punched someone for calling me a cheat.  i was convinced it was a bump ball and didn't walk. then the comments started from behind the stumps and I got really angry.  someone bowled a half tracker which i missed as i wanted to put it onto the road but it was dead straight and stayed low, lbw.  Not happy but I never lost my temper after that.

I don't like all that banter.  If i want to be insulted i could stay at home and if i want a fight i could have gone to some of my local pubs. I played the gentleman's game.  generally most do.  League cricket is a different animal.  I like to win too but cheating is not winning in my book and verbals is like cheating to me.  i am too soft i guess.  Wouldn't have made the northern leagues for sure! or if I did i would have got beaten up a lot! i had some lip when i was younger but never been good at fighting!

I once had the near opposite. I caught and bowled somebody and walked straight back to my mark to bowl the next ball. I never realised he'd hit the ball into his own foot, so though I never appealed, my captain did. Was about the unluckiest dismissal I've seen.
Report Darlo Bantam February 18, 2014 1:43 AM GMT
So would you call "not walking" cheating? And would it differ if you thought you hit it but not sure, or you know you definitely hit it.
Report West Coast Eagles February 18, 2014 1:48 AM GMT
Gavaskar hit the nail on the head 'batsman are now getting smarter, they are not turning their head once they know they have hit the ball' . So in a way it gives the impression they have not nicked it (showing a good poker face)

I think the game is different now.  Injera had a talk with his son and his son said that after he considered all options he wouldn't walk.  I just made the decision that if i knew I hit it I would walk.

I would call not walking cheating but am not precious about it anymore. Some do some don't.  I just get annoyed when non walkers complain about bad decisions and also complain when others dont walk.  Like when an Aussie complains about Broad not walking it doesn't make me laugh it makes me madAngry!
Report nicky27 February 18, 2014 1:51 AM GMT
i wouldn't call 'not walking' cheating ....maybe not in the spirit of the game , but if the umpire doesn't raise the finger , what to do ?
Report Darlo Bantam February 18, 2014 1:51 AM GMT
That makes a lot of sense. I think that's why I didn't walk. I got some bad decisions very early when I played and realised sometimes you get it your way, sometimes you don't. It wasn't something I did purposefully, but merely out of self-protection.
Report Whisperingdeath February 18, 2014 1:52 AM GMT
If I was not sure I wouldn't walk.  Once i didn't walk when i knicked it to second.  I was like spaced as i couldn't believe i knicked it.  i didn't feel it but i heard the sound loud and it went to second but the umpire gave me out and saved me from embarassing myself!
Report Whisperingdeath February 18, 2014 1:56 AM GMT

I can answer that one for you. As i have stated before when i was eleven I thumbed a bouncer while trying to hook and it went straight to the keeper.  they appealed and the umpire said not out.  i said to the umpire " but i hit it Sir " and he said loudly " not out! "  so i stayed at the crease.

After the match the teacher / umpire took me aside and said either i walked or i left it to the umpire to adjudicate.  he said to me he didn't care either way but it was one or the other.  He had no moral problem with me not walking but unlike Injera's son from that day on i decided i was a walker.

We still have a game on here!

well at Tea there will be still 36.0 overs left in the match. So, if what you guys are saying are right, the 'handshake' can occur 1 hour into the Tea session, is that right? Tea is usually 2 hours, with an allowance of 30 minutes to squeeze all the overs in

I layed aus at 1.3 just to get out of the game with a small green even though i was pretty sure they would win.  I just escaped from losing after backing SA then the draw first so was happy to live another day.  This comeback is something special even if the pitch was ok.  very rare but just shows the risk of low odds backing. ttese guys who do it must have plenty of money because it is usually easy money. we are just too poor to take advantage of it!
Report tyco161 February 18, 2014 2:41 AM GMT
But if at say 5pm (NZ time) and India are 150/3 both captains can shake hands and that would be it. No match ref required then.
