Which one do you think is the best bowler in the world at the moment?

Boult looks the goods to be up there with the best.  But Southee?  Averages 33 as a bowler ffs.  I know it is a joke thread but come on.
Long way to go to be ahead of Steyn, and Philander, but certainly doing the right things.  Couple of decent series against the better teams and maybe bowling out the batsmen rather than cashing in on a flakey WI tail, and I could easily see him top 3 in the world.
Report takethestand December 14, 2013 10:19 PM GMT
Think your being harsh on Southee regards his average.  He's been leading a bowling attack from a young age and has rarely had his batsmen give him a decent total to defend, often 150-250.  He also gets his wickets upfront, the top batsmen in the opposing team.  His average runrate is only a touch more than Anderson and Broad.

He is a clown of a batsman though.  Has talent but never bats the way the team needs him too.

southees average was 45 a few years ago so he's been in great form to get it to 33. Still young and these 2 bowlers may well push 300 test wickets each.

Yes, and both Anderson and Broad are average bowlers at best....

NZ are lucky to have Boult and Southee currently and should be thankful. They are good bowlers and have the potential to be better than good. What a lot of people do forget though is that the NZ wickets are very foreign for batsmen, back 5 or so years ago (or was it less or more) Ganguly, Dravid, Tendulkar et al could not bat to save themselves on swinging seaming pitches here. So it will be a mark of their talent/prowess to see how they bowl overseas. That for mine is their real test. Not sure if getting a 10 for in NZ against a WI tail really counts as something "great".

Southee performed very well on the last tour of India
Report takethestand December 21, 2013 4:48 AM GMT
These two just done another job on the West Indies.  Incredible bowling.

Bowl like that again and they will whitewash the Indians in the Home tour in a few weeks
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 4:55 AM GMT
this is a joke yeah
Report tyco161 December 21, 2013 6:46 AM GMT
no joke, they are pretty good. Still not world beaters because their performances have been on home soil. But that performance was pretty good on a placid pitch for fast bowlers. A bit of swing and they are in the game. NZ are lucky to have 2 top order bowlers of their calibre. Still need to prove themselves overseas though. Bangladesh did ok against them and that is saying a lot.
Report takethestand December 21, 2013 7:41 AM GMT
Southee didnt play the Tests against Bangladesh.  Thats one of his weaknesses, he is injury prone.  Will miss first 2 ODI against windies due to a toe injury.  He has the worst feet in NZ cricket.  They done a feature on them on "crowd goes wild" and they were disgusting.

NZ lack openers (although Latham will solve this) and its puts presure on bowlers.  Too often they have nothing to bowl at
Report takethestand February 9, 2014 8:38 AM GMT
these two will bring nz to top of the rankings in next 5 years.
Report tyco161 February 9, 2014 10:02 PM GMT
If they remain injury free TTS. But NZ has a nice opening bowling attack with these two and with Wagner coming in at 3 things bode very well.
Report takethestand February 10, 2014 4:18 AM GMT
Wagner has really impressed me.  His workrate and attitude have got him all these wickets during the summer.

NZ  just need to sort out the openers and find a replacement for Vettori.  I'd go with Latham and Fulton/Guptil in next test.  Rutherford has to go back and get confidence in last few rounds of Plunket shield.
Report takethestand June 14, 2014 9:10 AM BST
Average under 30 now.

Under twenty last two years.  Is there a better Away bowler over past 24 months?

High class pair. NZ looking a good side.
Report takethestand June 14, 2014 6:06 PM BST
Ryder is not just out, he'll never get back in.  Rutherford is probably on last chance next two tests.
Report Whisperingdeath June 15, 2014 7:57 PM BST
I;d say they are both high quality but not top top notch.  I like Southee a lot. Not many top notch fast bowlers about at the moment.  NZ getting a side together at last!  Great team, need confidence to compete with the best as they are good enough now.
Report tyco161 June 15, 2014 9:45 PM BST
HI King of Dubai, the general consensus here in NZ is that Ryder is out for good. Just too many skeletons in his closet. I know him personally and am unfortunately waiting for him to make a bit slip up over there on the lash. Its as inevitable as the sun comes up in the morning.
Report takethestand June 18, 2014 10:07 PM BST
Bring back ryder as opener :(

Think Guptil will open against Pakistan with Latham.......unless Rutherford makes a score at 7 today
Report tyco161 June 30, 2014 10:31 PM BST
Another nice performance from this pair to lead NZ to a series win in the WI. NZ are very lucky to have this opening pair.
Report takethestand July 1, 2014 8:17 AM BST
In past 2 years they have more wickets as a pair in away series than any other pair
Report DStyle July 1, 2014 9:03 AM BST
kiwis are probably one quality bowler and one quality opener away from being a very strong side.
Report takethestand July 2, 2014 9:26 AM BST
They have a long 11 game A-tour coming up soon and reckon they'll pick anybody who performs.  2 toes could be on this tour as I believe he has gotten over a series of niggling injuries.

Ryder has signed to play big bash and will NEVER play international cricket again
Report tyco161 July 4, 2014 11:30 PM BST
Hi King of Dubai... yes good on Ryder for not blowing up... yet. I hope he does not. I know him as a person (wouldn't say friend but acquaintance would be apt) and just wish him all the best. I see he is doing well over there and good on him. But I cannot see him playing for NZ again. The public is sick and tired of him here and now we have 2 adequate replacements in Neesham and Anderson. So there is really no place in the team for him anyway.
Report tyco161 July 5, 2014 8:07 AM BST
It is a shame because he is a great talent. He was even featured on the News here tonight in NZ as they did a piece on the WC coming. But the consensus is that he will not be needed in 2015. Even though we are looking for an opener. It was suggested tonight that Neesham will take over the opening role.

Boult certainly one of the best at getting out of the way of balls getting smashed back at him...  Not sure about anything else though.
