South Africa have won 19 of 24 against India on their home ground. South Africa will be more motivated to do well in this series than the series they had with Pakistan recently (in UAE and at home). South Africa get Steyn and Kallis fit for this one, 1.75+ seems a tad big, as I was expecting around 1.50-1.60 or so.

India's big concern is the bouncy wickets and its whether they can overcome this barrier and perform away from home which is the big question. Looking forward to the game.

I think a step across the crease with the right foot and get inside the line is a better way of playing.  You can't get back and across but better to just go across. They cannot hook off the foot unless they want to visit the emergency room.

Ball losing its movement.
Report Whisperingdeath December 5, 2013 4:23 PM GMT
but if his first movement is forward then better take an initial shorter step and spring back off it if the ball is short like Lara!

I love this bowling and Kohli's courage.  this is going to be a glorious if somewhat short intervention!Laugh

S.A short odds backers should be weary if the Indian batsmen get going and put them under any iota of pressure. S.A don't have any bottle which has been proven on numerous occasions, that's why they now play in pink.

Laugh

You got a billion Indians thanking you for that comment WCE!Laugh  Curse of the commentator!

Kohli is brave and a very good player but needs to adapt his game to these pitches.  At least he will have a go.  By contrast Yuvi and especially Raina will be bounced out or bowled to a full one while on the back foot.

Dharwan can play this stuff but Yuvi and Raina are yesterdays news in ODI.  They should not be playing when there are people like Rahane and Khartik around.
Report cardshark December 5, 2013 4:54 PM GMT
You can see a typical Indian issue in Yuvraj there - big back-lift and got done for pace.

Report Whisperingdeath December 5, 2013 4:57 PM GMT
You are right WCE but there is a new breed of Indian batsmen typified by Kohli and Dharwan that are strong physically and mentally but just need more practice to develop their game on bouncy wickets.  Practise is the order of the day.  They have the ability and courage just their motor responses are not equipped yet and the brain does not have enough time to send it's message.

I wonder if they practise with those bouncy rubber balls or not?  They should!
Report housefull December 5, 2013 4:59 PM GMT
de kock's career is finished now..bcci will try to end his career like how they ended the careers of symonds and shane bond who played well against India..I expect cheap under the belly tactics by jealous indians like gavaskar ( biggest racist in this world) and shastri and cheaper sledging by dhawan, kohli, jadeja- we already saw the send off the muppet kohli gave to dekock..and it was extremely silly considering he hammered 135 and was not out on 0..nice to see someone standing up to the bullies, but I fear this will be short lived

kallis is a big unit with a mahoosive neck so even the slightest bit of additional weight makes him look overweight. it wouldn't be so noticeable if he had nasser hussain's frame.

given that he's pushing 40 and is the greatest modern all rounder, possibly the greatest ever, he probably doesn't feel the need to be at steyn's level of fitness, but it's possibly not helping potential injuries from bowling.

his head still looks like a fat pineapple though (not least because of his hair transplant)

this is a common line of argument. I suggest that it's actually their bowling that was more exposed today than their batting.

If they had any half decent quicks, what's to say they couldn't have troubled the Saffers?

I'm not expecting them to produce the next Steyn, but both harris and parnell were more threatening than their quicks. This wicket was like a trampoline and there was plenty of sideways movement. Their lack of pace and movement essentially turned a good bowling wicket into a batsman's paradise as it quite simply went straight and came on to the bat very nicely, rarely being troubled by shorter balls. Ishant would have been far more dangerous.
