england just need to make sure they bat the 50 overs here. Nothing silly until the last couple of overs where they can maybe slog. Run a ball gets them around 225. Probably not enough still, but gives them something to bowl at.

woakes done alright tbf - the proper batsmen above him let the side down more so. Top score in the innings of only 37 simply not good enough. One of these 2 to top score would be nice

what i fail to understand is how england can turn around to compton and tell him that his future depends on county runs, yet they still pick dernbach time and time again who is so patently lacking in the control required at this level; there's no ferocious pace or raw talent to justify it either. just the odd slower ball at the death, which is fack all use if you've already gone for 85 off your first 8 overs.
would rather see tremlett or onions with a view to back up bowlers for the ashes, because there's no way this rasclart is getting anywhere near the test side.

I wouldn't mind him leaking runs quite so much if he was a genuine threat in the wicket department, batsmen have to get emself out against him.

their scoring at the correct rate, wickets in hand should do it with 2/3 overs to spare

England are a team going backwards, especially at one day cricket. We keep on going with so called one day specialists like, Butler, Morgan and Dernbach. Please, please, can someone tell me why Matt Prior, isn't in the odi side. He;s considered the best wicketkeeper and he scores quicker than Butler. Prior should open the batting or go No 3 in this side, he scores very quickly and more importantly he's good enough to play international cricket.
prior has had plenty of chances up and down the order and a terrible record in one day cricket for england. poor strike rate and something like 2 50s in 60 games. clearly they've decided to call time on his one day career
buttler has only played 6 or 7 games. gotta give him a decent run at it. phenenomenal record in county cricket
