As bad New Zealand are, South Africa are that good. Verlander would have had a 5for against any test side this morning.
Report nicky27 January 2, 2013 9:57 AM GMT
38 for 8 now Grin

some of the run lines are tempting me here.  SA probably won't get more than 250 here
Report kingmax January 2, 2013 11:18 AM GMT
will they even want to get to 400 here?

exactly!

Surprised you can still back SA here actually - I've taken lumps at 1.04 and 1.03 - bank not doing much right now so might as well take it.  That said some quick kiwi wickets and we might get 1.1 again
Report penbud January 2, 2013 11:55 AM GMT
wow 1.02 not even 3 hours into the test must be a record
Report kingmax January 2, 2013 12:35 PM GMT
gonna lay 525...
Report DStyle January 2, 2013 1:19 PM GMT
south africa should really declare now, and finish this off today

probably but thoroughly deserved!

Time to start laying the lines above 500 I reckon - imagine SA will declare around 500
Report gnashersblackpool January 2, 2013 5:43 PM GMT
rain expected tomorrow, market knows this , thats why u cant even lay 475 yet at evs.
Report nigelpm1 January 2, 2013 8:04 PM GMT
Bit of rain in the morning expected : http://www.yr.no/place/South_Africa/Western_Cape/Cape_Town/

Not going to make an ounce of difference - 50 on the draw is a gift.
Report cricnut January 2, 2013 10:59 PM GMT
Rain or no Rain, South Africa will get 500, unless of course there's 2 days rain on the trot. The wicket will get worse and SA can bat for as long as they like, although they will get to 500 in under 90 overs more. End of Day 2 I reckon SA 550-8, then bowled out for just under 600. NZ start to bat mid morning day 3 and are bowled out for around 220, before the end of Day 3. Game over with 2 days to spare, if of course there is no rain, but that about how I expect this match to go. Why would SA declare, they have 4 days or 360 overs more to win this game. No declaration until they reach 600, after all it only took 19 overs or 100 minutes to bowl NZ out first time around, but they won't be as intense 2nd innings, because NZ wickets fall regularly anyway, plus NZ will try that much harder.
Remember England all out for 45 in the West Indies, years back, next game Atherton and Stewart put on over 200 for the 1st wicket.
Report Foinavon January 2, 2013 11:09 PM GMT
SA will bat long for an extra day's gate money.
Report RockMonkey January 2, 2013 11:59 PM GMT
Reckon prospect of extra day off trumps that, cricketers being no less keen for a skive as the rest of us
Report nicky27 January 3, 2013 10:32 AM GMT
from cricinfo ....
Martin: "I don't know why New Zealand are celebrating so wildly with each wicket they take. Every wicket that falls only means they're that much close to batting again..."

How on earth can you still back SA?

Are the layers expecting a hurricane to wipe out the remaining 3 days?

you've lost me nige! Was just answering biscuit's question if a test had been won inside 2 days before- As I had tickets for day 3 in the above match it kind of sticks in the memory Sad

What are NZ still doing at 80! Can anyone roll out a viable scenario which sees NZ win it.  Clearly the draw is over unless we get two days of rain.
Report sweetchildofmine January 3, 2013 7:36 PM GMT
it would need 2.5 days of rain
Report DStyle January 4, 2013 1:26 PM GMT
great from philander, and there's no doubt how consistent and accurate he is, but ward, key and coney would do well to remember that his stats have yet to take a hit from quality batting in unfriendly bowling conditions.
