pretty confident of a result here. Even if bangers bat well 1st up they are well capable of getting
rolled in 60 odd overs on day 5.
Report DStyle November 14, 2012 2:12 PM GMT
the advantage that the windies had at the end of day one - that their run rate had almost bought them an extra session - was relinquished by slow batting from Chanderpaul and Ramdin to reach their landmarks

first hundred (154 balls)
second hundred (166 balls)
third hundred (152 balls)
fourth hundred (139 balls)
fifth hundred (229 balls)

this, and perhaps not selecting edwards, could cost them a victory. early spells from the quicks tomorrow probably going to be vital for a result now (really one of best or rampual should have had a couple of overs at the close instead of gayle).
Report dylansdad November 14, 2012 2:39 PM GMT
if BAN bat for 2 sessions the follow on will be avoided, hoping for windies to go close to evens to green out then,

Report bloody horses November 15, 2012 11:10 AM GMT
Roads of Bangladesh are straight, flat and shiny Alex Mack. No point playing Narine here. No point playing anyone actually there is nothing in this pitch. It would probably take a week of play before some signs of turn appear
Report nigelpm1 November 15, 2012 2:09 PM GMT
Draw all the way for me now.  I can't see any other result.  Imagine Ban will bat for at least 20 overs tomorrow - might even bat until lunch.  That leaves 5 sessions.  Imagine windies will bat for at least three of those leaving them a shout at getting Ban out in two.  Highly unlikely.
Report Lix November 15, 2012 6:18 PM GMT
hmm.... 180 overs left in the match. Bangs all out by lumch tomo for around parity lets say.

that gives about 150 overs left in the match. Windies could bat 80 of them for 300 runs and have 70 to bowl
at bangs on a 5th day spinning wkt. Ball was turning much more late of yesterday imo. cant be backing 1/4 so soon
here imo.
Report sweetchildofmine November 15, 2012 6:21 PM GMT
only thing is lix..would windies be willing to set bangla 300 in 70 overs, giving the flambouyant way they  bat?
Report Lix November 15, 2012 6:29 PM GMT
ball was spinning late on. I'm sure of it. Bangers are sh1te, this probably ends in a draw but
v unlikely its a 1.01 train from 1.25 here with these two teams.

i think windies will get bowled out Shocked. tail is weak here.
Report TwoTonTed November 15, 2012 6:49 PM GMT
think this is a 6/7 day deck, v hard to see it doing much if anything at all
Report cnman November 15, 2012 7:57 PM GMT
Was spinning slightly more yesterday but the fact of it is that 10 wickets have fallen in 9 full sessions, at least 8 of those wickets have been completely reckless shots. Personally I think Bangladesh will take out about 45 overs tomorrow (including 2.x overs for changeover). Leaves 135 overs left in the match, WI bat say 75 of those, really can't see 10 Bangladesh wickets falling in
Report Lix November 16, 2012 2:51 AM GMT
you think the bangers tail will last 45 overs! Shocked
Report cnman November 16, 2012 3:25 AM GMT

Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH November 16, 2012 7:58 AM GMT
yes around 275 in about 60 - 70 i think windies will give banga a chance as they were scoring at 7 an over for the 1st 10 in their 1st inns Happy
Report nigelpm1 November 16, 2012 10:39 AM GMT
Exciting flurry of wickets.  However, looking at it rationally, WI should still bat for another 30/40 overs tomorrow.  Doesn't really change things - probably only delays declaration (or likely Ban will have to bowl WI out)

oh yeah!  Kind of hoping not too exciting though as still nicely greened on the draw and WI with a bangla red.

Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH November 16, 2012 2:19 PM GMT
not sure why windies fav over banga they have to score at least another 70 runs and take 10 wkts in 90 overs and thats even if they sont declare before lunch which is a possiblity 4.5 seems poor value for a back seems a very low risk lay at this stay until banga bat
Report Asparagus Man November 16, 2012 2:44 PM GMT
It's a very high risk lay PTT - what if WI are all out in the first half hour leaving Bangas 230 off 80?

Draw is pretty much busted then, so WI have to shorten.

The pressures on the Bangas is going to be huge - even more so if the total seems gettable - they have ZERO form in terms of converting these chances.

I'd love the Bangas to win it, but WI win midway through the final session (Narine 5-40) the likely scenario.
Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH November 16, 2012 3:03 PM GMT
i tend to disagree Asp man banga still need to take shiv and sammy both very capable players as we know so respectfuly 230 all out is a very long shot but possible i see windies batting minimum 15/20 adding a another 60 to 80 runs minimum and i guess unless bowled out will wait on declaration hence why i feel windies are currently poor value as will then need to take 10 wkts in around max 70 over - you see if they start batting more than 20 over the price will start to move out very quickly as overs running out for them to take wkts whereas a target of 270 odd in 70 overs windes will be more or less the same price imo, however time will tell of course and thank you for your comments appreciated Happy
Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH November 16, 2012 3:14 PM GMT
and one would think the windies will open with their seamers for at least 5 overs and we know that the pitch is flat so by the time the spinners come on we are in to the 60 overs if not less and the market will not like the windes
Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH November 16, 2012 3:19 PM GMT
and banga really are in the best position because through continuned batting by the windies banga are less likely to lose and if chasing a target they can go for it and at any point can say probably best settle for a draw
Report Asparagus Man November 16, 2012 3:30 PM GMT
Think my point is the WI can be in this game for a long time yet whatever happens.

I don't think Bangas will have the ability to just opt for the draw until they get to the last 20 overs only 3 wickets dwon - that is a LONG way off.

This is the Bangas remember - Day 5 of a test match where they are in with a chance of not losing is a pressure situation.
Report nigelpm1 November 16, 2012 3:51 PM GMT
yeah, reason for collapse at end of day was mainly poor light - SC is an experienced and boring soul when it comes to holding wicket - if he goes early the game opens up otherwise bore draw
Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH November 16, 2012 4:10 PM GMT
i understand what you are saying AM i just think there are more factors to suggest that windies will drift rather than shorten up reasons posted above - shiv will hold an end up and sammy will score runs cant see shiv ruining his average after months batting at the creaseGrin

I don't see declaration batting. Windies will try and bat to lunch and beyond. Not easy but v.possible.

The humiliation of  losing a test to Bangers will be what occupies Sammy's mind.
Report Lix November 16, 2012 6:54 PM GMT
i doubt that. WI are used to beating bangladesh (won comfortably here last yr) and have just won the
T20 WC. They will be full of confidence and have little to fear if they get to 300 ahead.

Bangers have always failed 2nd inns after posting 400 in the 1st inns. They have also been bowled
out 10 times out of 13 when batting in the 4th inns.
Report Injera November 16, 2012 7:02 PM GMT
A 300 lead will take them past lunch. I expect no flamboyance from either captain.

I'd love to see WI get bowled out pretty damn quick.

Report OzBattla November 16, 2012 9:14 PM GMT
A good fina day in prospect here, those late wickets brought the match to life and all results into play.

My position:

Bang: +1525
WI: +725
Draw: -375.

Lead currently 215 with 4 wickets in hand, best thing for the match would be early Bangladesh wickets, given the way wickets fell last night I cant see an early declaration now, so the Bangers will have to take the wickets. I would love to see WI all out with about 30 mins left in the first session, with a lead of 280. In this position, I would see the Bangers as very vulnerable and although they batted well in first inns you could certainly see them collapsing here. My aim is to try and trade the draw into a better spot at about 6/4, we will see. Should be a good days cricket.

Report Lix November 17, 2012 3:18 AM GMT
is it f cuk..

This match ends on a saturday which is slightly unusual for a test. why is this important? well
it means there might be more of a crowd than normal. Bangers dont care too much for test cricket.
They do however quite like one day cricket. They arent actually that bad when they play at home..

Bangers chasing say 290 in 65 overs is kind of like a one day situation. if the crowd start
cheering for boundaries i think the batsmen may well get carried away....

This exact thing happened not so long ago in a test in zimbabwe against NZ. the zims could well
have shut up shop for a draw but chose to carry on chasing and ultimately lost in the process.

Report screaming from beneaththewaves November 17, 2012 4:35 AM GMT
Wonderful, wonderful Test match.

You can't just look at this as the equivalent of chasing 245 in 78 overs in some kind of elongated ODI. It's a Test match: the result really matters. There'll be such pressure on both sides here.

I make the draw a 4/1 shot at this stage.
