I'm with screaming 2-9 to chase donw the joint 4th highest target ever chased in the 4th innings of a test at lords doo me a favour., think it's probably 10-15 ticks too low.

4th innings is often easiest time to bat here. be pretty shocked if Eng lose this. looking for a bigger price to get on em if anything.
Report dougydougy. May 21, 2012 11:17 AM BST
true lix, but 4th innings chases on day 5 with the pressure on are never straight forward. England favs not doubting that, just wouldn't have gone anywhere near the 2-9 this morning

Market drift into England for a handful of byes, one decent boundary and a edge through the slips looks a bit funny now.
Report LendUsAFiver May 21, 2012 11:25 AM BST
odds are so so wrong! 1 wicket for 14 runs and it's lower than sp!
Report LendUsAFiver May 21, 2012 11:27 AM BST
Very overcast here in the south. Perfect bowling conditions.
Report STEPTOES YARD May 21, 2012 11:28 AM BST
drift in on the byes was madness

looking tough at moment, roach spell here could be game
Report screaming from beneaththewaves May 21, 2012 11:28 AM BST
Just logged on. I think those County games have some relevance just to demonstrate that right now batting on the last day at Lord's is not straightforward. And if you're betting a nine hundred to two on, you want everything to be totally straightforward. There is no margin for error or doubt at those odds.

For what it's worth, I thought England were by far the likelier winner last night, and I still do. Just not 9 times out of 11 winners.
Report Lix May 21, 2012 11:31 AM BST

STOP bowling no balls you numptys
Report berto77 May 21, 2012 11:33 AM BST
Another no ball.  Would be typical windies self destruct if they took a wicket off a no ball and went on o lose.
Report Lix May 21, 2012 11:33 AM BST
Not sure i fancy Eng if it gets close. Bigpoppa used to say the great Aussie team were no good in close games as had been used to winning so easily most of the time. England's success has been built on lots of big crushing wins also.

oh for a mystery spinner

Yes. I love Darren Sammy, but going for a win you can see how his presence ruins the balance of the side. Even if Sunil Narine wasn't at the IPL, how could you squeeze him into this XI without dropping Sammy or relying on just two pace bowlers?
Report STEPTOES YARD May 21, 2012 12:51 PM BST
its a difficult one, sammy been great as skipper but as you say it does lead to problems with balance as not sure against good batting line ups if he has enough to be 3rd seamer.
Report dougydougy. May 21, 2012 12:53 PM BST
only way i see it is you play Dwayne bravo at 6 instead of samuels

1st choice windies XI (with sammy in it)

Gayle
Barath
Edwards
Bravo
Chanderpaul
Bravo
Ramdin/baugh( or someone decent)
Sammy
Roach
Rampual
Narine/shillingford (or both on spinning pitches)
Report Lix May 21, 2012 12:56 PM BST
Kirk Edwards is sh1te. Put Samuels in for him please.
Report screaming from beneaththewaves May 21, 2012 12:58 PM BST
Marlon Samuels instead of Kirk Edwards and that would be one hell of a side, with a depth of bowling options any country would envy.
Report dougydougy. May 21, 2012 12:58 PM BST
that way you have 4 seam options and a spinner, plus gayles part time stuff, and you don't weaken the batting too much with bravo in for Samuels
Report screaming from beneaththewaves May 21, 2012 1:00 PM BST
I think Kirk Edwards could become a decent, solid batsman. But right now they need to win matches, and the best Edwards could do is help you drag it into day 5.
Report cnman May 21, 2012 1:02 PM BST
Sarwan instead of Kirk Edwards or Samuels for me
Report dougydougy. May 21, 2012 1:04 PM BST
Samuels has played 37 tests and still averages under 30 with just 2 tons in that time, may have "all the talent in the world" but he just hasn't done it, can't keep giving them chances.

Edwards has had a blinding start to his career, looks like he's got a good head on his shoulders and has had a couple of bad test matches in a row and all of a sudden he's sh*te. Complete nonsense played 7 matches has ..... guess how many tons??? The same as flashy Marlon 2!

I'll still with the younger up and coming player thankyou.

Report dougydougy. May 21, 2012 1:27 PM BST
Love Sarwan, but time to move on, build a young side around chanders and bravo, no problem with Gayle coming back into the side as long as he puts windies international cricket 1st. Pick him for all games, lf he wants to swan off and do something else instead then you never pick him again.
Report STEPTOES YARD May 21, 2012 1:32 PM BST
sarwan still pretty young
Report STEPTOES YARD May 21, 2012 1:32 PM BST

Report berto77 May 21, 2012 1:43 PM BST
Did anyone else hear the WICB chief exec on sky the other day.  He made the valid point that a lot of the windies 'potential' team, including gayle, sarwan, Jerome Taylor etc played in the 2009 tour that got hammered over here.  He suggested the way forward was building team spirit and character.  They've shown plenty of that in this test.
Report STEPTOES YARD May 21, 2012 1:47 PM BST
mentioned that other day. Yep its clear that one or two of missing players would improve side but lets remember the windies been a shambles over here last few visits. Gayle even though skipper rocked up about 20 minutes before the toss from the ipl in 2009
Report mafeking May 21, 2012 1:48 PM BST
they have certainly battled hard but the trouble is can they play any better ?

england have been pretty average but still look like winning fairly comfortably in the end. windies have scored nearly 600 runs with chanders getting the best part of 200. they'll hard pressed to repeat that.
Report dougydougy. May 21, 2012 1:56 PM BST
Well engalnd are quite clearly the better side, so not surprising that they'll win. But they've also been quite clearly the better side vs the windies teams that included, gayle sarwan chanderpaul and bravo over the last 5-10 years. This side have done no worse, if not far better.

I would have thought on low slow spinning tracks with narine and Shillingford in the side they'll be more than a handfull. This tour all about getting experience, put up far more of a fight against england than india did last summer.
Report Lix May 21, 2012 2:08 PM BST
hmm.. England matched at better than 8/1 in 3 of those wins last year vs INdia suggests it wasnt quite a walkover each time..

Report Lix May 21, 2012 2:17 PM BST
Eng won a very handy toss here too. Game could've gone to the wire had we batted 1st and any rain (losing 1 session even) would have made the draw a very good chance.
Report fairfranco May 21, 2012 2:20 PM BST
West Indies really need to work on Roach's no ball problem.

His test average is 28 which is good but it could be well below 25 if he wasn't giving away so many runs from no balls and subsequent extra deliveries.

18 now balls is clearly unacceptable from someone you want to be bowling a bulk of the overs

A 5 wicket win is a disapointing margin for the number 1 team at home to the number 7 after winning the toss and they will have to play better against South Africa. If you combined the teams it would be 10 English players and Chanderpaul.  Windies need Gayle and Sarwan back.  You cant blame them for playing in ipl if the windies board dont give them enough money like the English do but it is causing them a problem.
Report STEPTOES YARD May 21, 2012 9:35 PM BST
5 wicket win but one of them was anderson and cook got out with 2 needed going after ball

was pretty comfortable in the end. west indies are improving fast and batted well and bowled with good pace.

Often hard work getting the win at lords as pitch so good.
Report mafeking May 21, 2012 10:18 PM BST
it's the depth of the bowling attack that obviously sets england apart from the rest. impressive stat on cricinfo that since the start of 2010 the 7 bowlers who've played regularly for england - the 4 in this match plus tremlett, finn and monty - average 27 or less.

very hard to beat when the opposition so rarely get 300 against us these days. tremendous effort from the windies to almost last the day starting 4 down on sunday.
