Small punters add liquidity and critical mass. Lots of the people who bet 1000's today started off with 2-5. I am not a big player by any stretch but even I started with a 25 for the 1st few months before ramping up

No need to be such an arrogant fool if you can afford to bet big amount

I bet in £2 to £10. Also, i have found out where you live, because i have a way of doing so.  You can't hide behind your screen any more mad dog. I am coming to beat the sh!t out of you, very soon. AngryAngry

when you put a normal bet on at a price then some £4 mug punter puts his bet up at a tick shorter than yours and u need to wait- seething.

these punters like kingmax should have to wait patiently to place their bets while the normal people with normal banks can crack on
By:

why do you need to wait?

if someone is going to back your "chunky" Plain bet, a £4 bet a tick higher in the queue makes not a jot of difference.

Fixtures 14 May / Netherlands v Middlesex / Match Odds
Middlesex    Back    19918271235    14-May-12
10:57         1.55    130.00        1.55    14-May-12 11:05

for instance before that bet was taken some bright spark had £4 at 1.54 so his bet would be taken first, happens all the time in the runs market in the ipl, so frustrating, if your betting in £2-£10 stakes then i advise you to quit gambling and evaluate your life and look where you went wrong

iv found the top bat market this tourney very hard and difficult to get into this ipl.  Whenever i put up some bets trying to take a stance, i get £2  put in front of me, three times. Sad pushing me off the screen. SadLaugh

seems to happen every game, like some bot is doing it?  I tryed to do it back and force them to up their price but then i got picked off once or twice. Sad so stopped that.

Had a few bets matched today, but that was cuz the money was there and i took anyother mumbai indian on.   Very hard to edge slightly at the mo and have taken some nasty reds.  As i dont seem to be laying more than a one or two runners per innings. Sad

Whilst quite annoying / frustrating, i must say well done as this person / bot seems to have replaced the invisible 1.99 guy.

check out the high roller

Dont think the real high rollers have time to post on here .  The IPL main win market is huge , but the subsidiary markets are pretty small .  Occasionally I look at the top batsman market  in running , what I see are a few £2 bets up at 10 to 20 trying to back the outsiders .

Its easy to put up hundreds at odds on  , nobody needs a big bank for that . I wonder though at the 20k and 30k which surface after nearly every ball during the match , are all those input from people at the ground ? Anything else would seem pretty foolhardy given how a six or a wicket affects the market .

Agree, some serious money matched on these matches circa 15 million albeit the majority traded. As you say Kelly, 20 k lumps appear on either side during the game, don't think its inside knowledge as there is usually an opposing large number....but probably at the game, the delay is around 3-4 secs from ITV pics to odds moving.

Having diligently worked my bank from an opening £10 to over a thousand I would welcome the small time betfair users.

I regularly withdraw money and despite my biggest bet being around 400. I slowly but surely make money doing what I like. Watching sport.

My trouble is when the stakes get big I act differently. Lay off profit to early and lose about the same ratio as small stakes. So I guess im struggling to take it to the next level.

But anyhoo what a **** opening post.

Captain America , lots of people started on here with smallish banks and worked their way up . Your point about judgement / action being partly regulated by the fear factor is completely true .  Thats one of the reasons the bookies hate arbers , arbers have eliminated the fear factor in their case .

How many times have we stood in the bookies and listened to the tales of woe from punters whose nerve failed them when they might have scored big ? There are not that many mugs out there betting on the exchanges , most of the time everybody gets value in relation to risk etc .  Thats the beauty of the exchange system . Trick is to be just one step ahead or slightly better than the average  , but its easier said than done . Time and profitability are the only arbiters of the equation . Cheers .

My first bet on cricket on betfair was a £2 draw lay.

That's over 8 years ago now, and in my own opinion I do pretty well. I'd agree that in my experience there does become a point where the amounts you are betting cannot keep increasing, but part of the skill is managing what you do in relation to the rest of your life. Do I want a £500 exposure on an overnight test match - no I don't if I want a good nights sleep. The amounts I bet do therefore vary accordingly to my ability to trade.

The OP is fishing / angry / both - it's a free market for the £2 traders as much as it is for the big hitters.

clearly if there was that much interest in laying Middlesex at the time they'd have taken some of your money as well as the measely £4 lay.

that is of course unless they put their £100 or whatever all down on 1.54 in which case you'd probably have to bite the bullet and give up £1.30 of potential profit to get matched.

just what happens on such a low liquidity market.

They way Maddogs was posting I thought he was a 2000-5000 pounders. LOL you are not even a drop in the ocean for some big players.

Maybe you should increase your stakes and bet for some real money before telling otehrs to get lost

I'm ok with small stake punters , i sometimes have an under 10 quid bet ...however , I agree it can be annoying if ur trying to get matched in a low liquidity market and someone sticks 2 quid up in front of you by one tick Devil

maddogs is a p...k,if there wasnt small stakes punters about there wouldnt be any bookies or online exchanges, there is far more small punters than big ones

Occur to anyone that the £2 punter might be just someone trying to push the larger offer just in behind out to bigger odds before availing of it  ?  Sprick to catch a ( relatively larger) whale ?  Not unknown tactics .
