Traders again endure wasting hours of their time. Dead heat rules should apply when there's 2 options. Betfair's like "there's a separate market on a tie". Please!

it's always been like that, everyone knows it, anyone with any sense would realise when not seeing a "tie" option on the market that they should check the rules and then bet on the tie market accordingly.

every fekin time there's a tie loads of idiots start moaning on here.

any decent trader takes some insurance on the tie.
Report aussie29 February 14, 2012 12:55 PM GMT
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Insurance on the tie? To make up for the $0.00 lost on the head to head? You're just another of the bozos I make thousands off every year fairfranco.
Report 1.01 Layer February 14, 2012 1:08 PM GMT
OP makes thousands and doesn't read the rules Laugh
The tie was between 25 and 50-1 for most of the match.  Not exactly expensive to guarantee a profit, if you've gone all green on the match.  Stop bleating and take it on the chin.
Report SrgtDouche February 14, 2012 1:56 PM GMT
where is the India vSri Lanka match thread? How is it that the 30th over bowled by malinga... had only 5 balls to complete the over? Was this the most blatant way of fixing? Did India and Sri Lanka intentionally fix a tie?
Report lambers1 February 14, 2012 2:11 PM GMT
From my memory, which is slowing going it wasnt always void on a tie.  This only came in effect afew years back.
Report fairfranco February 14, 2012 2:20 PM GMT
lol you don't sound like someone that makes thousands to me, just another mug that starts moaning when something doesn't go their way!

so are you saying your fine with making/losing nothing on the game...if so what's the complaint?!  If you do have a problem then you should have stuck a few quid on the tie and enjoyed a profit for your efforts.  I'm sure you had a good £k or so profit coming in on whoever won so wouldn't have been a hardship to stick ten or twenty quid on 25-50/1 and guarantee a profit.
Report aussie29 February 14, 2012 3:53 PM GMT
I do make thousands. Only 3 or 4 but that's still thousands haha. It actually can be a hardship trading/betting in live play here in Aus because you have to get on the phone because it's illegal to do it on the internet. Another point to note is British people or where ever you lot are from seem to say "mug" a lot. I've seen many quite good sportsman called mugs in this forum. Intelligent conversations are few and far between seemingly hence why I've made only 11 topics/replies in my 3 years of being a betfair member.

Thai Insurance cant be taken always regardless of the game. A Good trader will probably make 5-10% on here after BF Commission and to give away 1-2% in every game for the odd profit doesnt make sense. I am sure less than 2 in 100 ODI is a tie.

I only get Thai insurance when I have a huge green both ways and I reckon it will be close and thai insurance is cheap.

Would prefer the dead heat rule TBH. Dont want to concentrate on another market that is extremely illiquid.

Atleast the bookies pay out with the exception of Cricketbetlive that even cancel over/under and al other spot bets

Rohit79! Hello! Finally someone with some sense. 25 to 50 is shocking value for a tie. Wouldn't touch it with a 30 foot pole.
Report SrgtDouche February 14, 2012 4:31 PM GMT
point is this was a nailed on tie and you lot who didn't back the tie were just sucked into losing. Don't worry you will continue to lose more if you bet on fixed matches.
Report Lix February 14, 2012 4:42 PM GMT
yes Rohit, less than 2 in 100 is correct. more like 1 in 80 is a tie in ODIs and about 1 in 50 for T20s.

These figures include plenty of mismatches though. You wont get a tie if the team batting 1st is bowled out for under 190 imo (v rare anyway) However, you can often get an inkling of when a game might get close and come down to the last few overs and still lay 1.02/1.03 as was the case today.
Report rohit79 February 14, 2012 4:45 PM GMT
There was no fix here.

1. All bets refunded on Tie's so bookies made no money for a days work. They make tons on money on Indias game in Spot and Match Betting. No logic for it to be a tie

2. It was too close to call. Dhonis shot could have been a 4 a 2 or anything. Thai was the most unlikely result before the last ball and that could not have been planned

3. Odds looked OK all match. In a fix the odds look totally wonky and you can make it out from a mile.
Report rohit79 February 14, 2012 4:46 PM GMT
True Lix. I didnt follow todays game so I cant comment on whether Thai looked value at any stage. I reckon

True Lix. I didnt follow todays game so I cant comment on whether Thai looked value at any stage. I reckon you need to use the same logic you would like punting i.e. value, Probabily and overall book. I never take Thai insurance if I have a red both ways or smalll green.

then you'd probably complain that you were getting less value on your match odds market with the 3rd option included Plain
Report lou-vincent February 14, 2012 6:18 PM GMT
There's absolutely nothing wrong in a tie game.

if you are achieving green on both sides its wise to put 2-3% of your profit on tie as you have a separate market in betfair for that.

ask people who bet in india with local bookies they will tell what they feel when they have huge green both sides and the game ends in a tie. as most bookies don't offer tie odds here.

its better to learn a lesson now and be aware in the future instead of crying out loud.

good luck

i just cant beleive that there was 23.5 million matched on the india sri lanka game and all the money gets refunded. seems very strange to me.

it hasnt always beeen like this on here to clarify earlier point - previously dead heat rules applied which caused utter carnage towards the end

Please stop talking utter nonsense. Also, how much did they lose if all bets are void?
Report Darlo Bantam February 15, 2012 10:37 AM GMT
To be fair, on the face value of it, it makes no sense to have a void market when it's tied. I can't think of any other sport where you can't back a draw, etc. Even rugby, where it must be about as common.

Are the people Betfair pandered to when changing the rules all those years ago the kind of people for whom they have since changed their business model to hit them hard?

Or do the big hitters who play across the India market and betfair lose?
