Jimmy knocks one over in the first over. Pak bat. Personally I think this match is v.important. No such thing as dead rubbers now we have the world rankings. Would be great for us to pit a marker down by performing well, hopefully winning, and showing we've learned something from what has, admittedly, been a difficult tour.

What the hell are these umpires playing at? Onfield umpire doesnt give LBW, presumably because of an inside edge. It gets reviewed, so we need conclusive proof that there WASNT an inside edge to overrule the onfield umpire and give it out. Hotspot shows an inside edge, therefore backing up the onfield umpire.

Borderline high, borderline missing leg, decent stride down the track, I fail to see how the umpire can reasonably give that out.

it's all on how Prior and Broad do really, we know Morgan won't get more than 10 but at least the other 2 have shown a bit of ability in the conditions.

Pakistan are awful with those reviews, Morgan is a walking wicket, he may as well play a few shots, try to get some momentum and spread the field a little. He won't, he will nick one to slip after scoring 2 from 21 balls or some such irrelevance.
don't think go under 19.5. as much as i think he'll fail I just can't be shorting a top order batsman for less than 20 in a test match!

Cricket is so simple at times, hit 6, fielder goes back, easy single every time.

That was a UDRS/Hawkeye wicket. Have to get the pad out of the way and by doing that you leave off stump exposed.
it was also an arm ball that hit the seam and moved the wrong way

Not seen any action. Am guessing the wicket simply isn't good enough for test cricket (England's inability to play spinners not withstanding?)

It's patently absurd the 'experts' in the comm box claim the pitch is a belter. 16 wickets in a day. The ex-test player club need to wake up to modern cricket. They would all be bundled out in similar fashion with DRS.
Missed the first two sessions so cannot comment on those, from watching England post Pietersen getting out and the way they bog themselves down, have to think that Pak at 2.7 over the England price looks cracking value. England batting last will be haunted by their collapse in the previous test. I expect greater value to come down the line but can't have Pakistan at such a price with respect to England's at this stage.
need to have a serious rethink about how DRS is employed. it was meant to eradicate howlers not to fire out batsmen lbw every time they miss it. changing the face of test cricket and not for the better.
^^^Disagree with that, two very good bowling attacks this series and if the batsman misses it, it hits his leg and would have hit the stumps, why shouldn't it be out?
It's when it's only shown to be clipping that makes it a little farcical esp. on these sort of wickets.
that's right. at very least under the current system change to the batsman should never be out when's it umpire's call on hitting the stumps. a good portion of the ball must be hitting
well if the original decision is out and its shown to be clipping I think that's fair enough, perhaps a little unlucky but can't have too many complaints.

On anything but the flattest of tracks surely you have to play two spinners nowadays? When UDRS is in use, I would play Swann & Monty in every game

Now LBWs are taking over, at least in this series. Some might say it's great for bowlers to get some payback. Whilst I agree with that up to a point, LBWs merely clipping leg stump on the say so of Hawkeye, doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the game.

, every ball looked like taking a wicket by the pakistan spinners again, England bowled well 1st up pakistan batted poorly. 200 run lead gonna be like 350 /400 here , wrong favs imo which time will tell

Use your bat and you don't have to worry about lbws
i've watched dozens of test matches where there hasn't been one decent LBW shout for 2 days at a time. DRS hasn't suddenly created some magic situation where bowlers beat the bat all the time and players miss deliveries that are going on to hit the stumps. The bowlers in this series have bowled exceptionally well, on pitches that have helped them and made batting tough. The ball still has to hit the batsman in line and go on to hit the stumps for the LBW to be given it's not like the umps are making up dismissals.
There's no doubt in my mind that as soon as we get on a flat pitch or even a normal pitch DRS will show us that it just gets decisions right, in test matches where batting is tough and there are lots of good lbw shouts, it will mean lots of batsman get given out LBW. That isn't DRS that is pitch related.
