. Delhi must be very pleased after mugging themselves in the auction last time out by not keeping GG

Dinesh Kartik has moved from Punjab to Mumbai. Punjab team looking wafer this now with no good Indian batsman if I remember right. Valthaty did well but he is still unproven.
Lets see if Bangalore can retain Gayle. Wont be surprised if Mukesh Ambani has told him that we will give you double of what Bangalore gives you straight in your swiss bank account. |

Think Gayle will stay at RCB. I hear Vijay Mallya aint short of a few quid either...
![]() gayle would be a good swap for Symonds though at Mumbai. Would make Mumbai a very scary prospect with Gayle and Pollard ![]() Will be interesting to see what Rajasthan do without Warne. As I understand it, they were fighting with one hand tied behind their back last year with a restriction on salaries for some financial wrongdoings. (they also got told ordered to prepare a flat pitch vs CSK instead of a dustbowl much to Warnie's annoyance ) ![]() So this season, in theory, they should have a few quid to spend and a few overseas spots to fill. cant see em keeping Oram. Wonder what will be in demand this year? maybe the young Aussie seamers will be popular- Cummins, Pattinson and Starc? These 3 are actually quite good compared with some of the 2nd rate guys who get in squads cos their mate (or dad ) is running the team. Think Punjab have no chance. Valthaty started well last year but faded badly when peeps worked out he's just a front foot mug (bit like a poor mans Murali Vijay ) and Gilchrist cant go on forever. losing DK now is a disaster. Just thinking about that DK to mumbai deal.... isnt DK on decent money? Just dont see how mumbai can possibly pay all these big salaries and still be within the salary cap? just seems like flagrant cheating to me. ![]() |

Deccan need to take my advice
and 'do a Hampshire' , i.e. prepare a big spinning deck and let Mishra and Ojha go to work on opposing teams middle orders. no point in them playing on their flat pitch with such a flaky batting line up. They played on a turner in mumbai at the end of last season and duly knocked over Mumbai defending 130 odd. that should be their blueprint for this season. |

Another big question...
What happens to the (now disbanded) Kochi Tuskers players? Some serious T20 talent there that needs to find a new home and er.. Sree ![]() Mahela, McSlogga, Jadeja all top class players. Then come the likes of Parthiv Patel, Hodge , Murali, Steve Smith , RP singh, Vinay Kumar, perera etc.. |
|
By:
McDingo has signed for RCB from DD. Wont get a game ahead of Gayle, AB, Dilshan, Nannes and Vettori but a handy squad player I guess.
|

By:
anyone would think you were excited about this years IPL Lix!
|
|
By:
can any1 tell me how can Kp's value go up by 3 times from last season despite never featuring for DC. What did I miss then?
|
|
By:
Wow Lix. You really have thought this through and seem to be looking forward to the IPL. Is it because of the fantastic quality of cricket
![]() Kochi Players will be auctioned as well as some other playersand each team will get a cap again. The one person who may go at a high price is Travis Birt (Dont know if he is part of any team) I just have this feeling about Gayle. Obviously he should be a Bangalore player but something tells me that Ambani will pull he rug under Mallya feet. Mallya is obviously super rich despite the failure his airline but Ambani is in another league. Not an even bets but odds of 7-8 that he will join MI will be acceptable. RR will be a better team IMO. Hav never liked the cheapskates but Warne was a waste, now their team looks good with the following oversea splayers Rosco, Watson, Botha/Oram and Tait Indian players are Dravid, Rahane, Mineria so much better than last few years. Will also get a few in the Auction I reckon Should be a great tournament for punting. Cant wait for it to begin. |

I like discussing the IPL its true franco. Sadly it seems to be moving away from the original U.S. style franchise concept where every team is considered equal and measures are made to ensure the gap between the top and the bottom is kept to a minimum.
![]() Mumbai,Chennai are dominating with RCB and KKR not far behind. Delhi are a huge team though and look to be making moves to crash the top 4 after their disastrous decision making last year.. "Lets get rid of GG,Dilshan,AB and Vettori and replace them with Irfan Pathan, Finch, Ingram and Hopes" ![]() ![]() At least they have the two hottest young indian seamers coming through in Yadav and the Baron. |
|
By:
travis birt played for delhi daredevils last year rohit.
|
|
By:
One thing I didnt factor in properly last year was the group system. One group was much much easier than the other which lead to a distorted league table (basically Mumbai were overrated cos they beat lots of sh1te home and away and only played the top sides once)
|
|
By:
Thanks Louie. Sure he will get a few more games this year especially when KP is gone unless Aussies pick hm by then.
DD overloaded their squad wth seamers and may be able to exchange a couple with some quality Indian batsman, for me that is the single most important factor for success. RCB , MI, CSK and KKR have that advantage with MI Tendulkar, Sharma and Karthik, RCB Kohli, Pujara and Pandey, CSK, Dhoni, Raina, Vijay and even Badri and KKR have GG, Yusuf aand Tiwari. Rest of the teams have 1 or 2 quality Indian batsman. You can but quality overseas batsman but Indian batsman with only about 15-20 are in short supply 9 teams better than 10 but 8 was ideal. Would love to see the Pakistanis, as well as the ENglish players for a full season. Aussies also have another tour so they will miss part of it |
|
By:
some good points rohit. Quality indian bats are v important. RR didnt really have many when they won IPL1 (Yusuf Pathan maybe) . I guess they were a huge exception to the norm and warne created something very special. more so now that it looked at the time.
Think I have to back Punjab to come bottom if they keep the same squad. Gilchrist (is he playing? ) will be sh1t half the time at his age and the two main bowlers (harris and PK) are both very injury prone. very little in the way of back up seamers there and with a longer schedule this year i can see one or both breaking down. Marsh is top class but the loss of DK is huge. He;s just so versatile. |
|
By:
why is everyone avoiding my question about KP? No 1 got an answer? How can one player's value go up 3 times from the previous year despite not playing in last year's IPL. Not like he's been in blistering form for England either...
|
|
By:
Actually is it. 53,33 and 41 this year so averaging 40+
including a match winning inns in Kolkata (matches in India agaist India ovb worth a lot more to the franchise owners)Also Delhi are desperate and have money to spend hence his high value. |
|
By:
i might have misread you somewhere there lix but does every team not play every other both home and away anymore?
I missed most of last years as I was away. |
|
By:
they didnt last year cos with 10 teams it woulda meant too many games.
check this out: http://fifa-world-cup-highlights.blogspot.com/2011/01/ipl-2011-draw-format-ipl-group-format.html If we take the Big 4 to be MI,CSK,RCB and KKR then last year Mumbai played Pune,Delhi,Deccan, Punjab and Raj all twice and CSK ,Kochi,KKR and RCB only once. much easier than say Raj who played CSK, kochi, RCB,KKR and MI all twice! |
|
By:
Probably had some money in the kitty hence the $2. DC batting ws terrible last time and now imagine Sehwag, KP,Warner and Birt if they all play together can really see some carnage
KP is an outstading T20 batsman, He is an outstandin batsman period but has done well in t20 even in his weak phase Gayle the best IMO with Watto and KP a joint 2nd |
|
By:
Pragyan Ojha moves from DC to MI. Dont know what Deccan Chargers are upto, they gave away KP and now Ojha. Their bowling was outstanding in INdian conditions with Steyn, I Sharma, A Mishra and P Ojha and D Christian as the 5th bowler while their batting always been weak. Now they are weakining their stronger suit.
MI seem to be using the power of cash to build the best team and get the best Indian players where they can |
|
By:
Big Chris has his new swiss bank account sorted and has agreed to stay with BCB next year.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Sweet Azz... ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Lets see how much Mallya cliamed he paid him. DOnt think he will say he used up the $2 purse.
Good for the tournament IMO. |
|
By:
The salary cap has pretty much gone out the window now with all this 'how much shall we say we're paying' crap. Mumbai are clearly spending way more than everyone else. Have somehow swapped Sathish for Dinesh Karthik and can get away with paying him $1.5m instead of Sathish's $55k salary! what a load of sh1te!
was a much fairer comp when Modi was in charge (altho he had shares in Rajasthan! ) ![]() Surprised the smaller teams arent making more of a fuss about this. Its bullsh1t. |

Pune in real sh*t now and with Ganguly playing I expect them to be languisihing near the bottom again.
They should go all out for Ravindra Jadeja,Parthi Patel , McCuulum, Jayawardene, Hodge Need to get atleast 2 of them to have any chance and playing Ganguly will be disastrous - Scores at a SR of 100 irrespective of the scenario, can be tied down and has hardly played any cricket. My Semi Finalist will be the same as last time - MI, CSK, KKR and RCB but expect some fight from Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals. DC, Pune and Kings to be absolutely useless though the good news from Kings is Shaun Marsh's disastrous performance means he wont be in the Aussie team but otherwise nothing in that team especially with Kartik now with Mumbai and Gilly 1 year older |
|

Auction this Saturday. Kochi players the main draw and Laxman has a reserve price of $400,000
. If he goes unsold then the BCCI will have to make up his fees or thats whats suppose to be done.McCullum, Jayawardene, R Jadeja, P Patel expected to be the guys in demand. Swann and Tamim are interesting choices also in the Auction, Tamim may get a bid as the teams have a purse and if they miss the big guys the may go for Tamim. Swann a good bid as even if he is unavailable they dont pay him. I thought Mitchell Johnson would also try and play, but havent read anything recently. Dont see him getting back in the Aussie side for a while so he may as well make some money. Would love to see the Pakistani players as that would increase the value of the tournament big time but thats for another day. |
|
By:
Mate I think you should check about Ganguly. If I rem correctly, I read him and Allan Donald have been added to the team as coaching staff ! Dont think he is playing.
|
|
By:
Player **** Coach. Hopefully more coach and less player.
|
|
By:
Ok I just checked. He is supposed to be playing as a player as well as mentor. Though I hope he is only the mentor, as he could make a god coach. Was very aggressive n smart for India. Its his batting which is long FINNISHED !
|
|
By:
that was a good* coach, not a god coach by any means :)

Ravindra Jadeja expected to be the most sought after player but with a $2 Million cap |

Cont..
Ravindra Jadeja expected to be the most sought after player but with a $2 Million cap it willl go into a tie breaker and no one can take on the richest man in India there so I expect Jadeja to go to MI. MI now by far the best team with a team readin Tendulkar, Blizzard/Davy Jacobs,DInesh Kartik, Rohit Sharma, Rayudu, Pollard, Jadeja, Harbhajan, Munaf, Malinga, Fernando/Franklin FOr the sake of the IPL I hope Jadeja goes to a Kings X1 or a Deccan so they can make a fight. |
