Lancashire lead by 246 runs with 3 wickets remaining

Gary Keedy said yesterday that Lancy began day two wanting to set them 200 in the last innings. This could be a very twitchy one tomorrow. Lancy's mini-collapse means a draw might be out of the window if the weather's good tomorrow.

In other news, six catches for Rikki Clarke - the best in 2011 and one short of equalling the world record.

thought we looked a silly price considering the forecast for thursday was a shocker. that thin band of rain today that came up from cornwall and stubbornly refused to move was a real nasty shock.

thought we might get on for a hour or so tonight. probably best we didn't. might have lost 3 or 4 more in ideal bowling conditions.
Report screaming from beneaththewaves August 17, 2011 9:16 PM BST
The annoying thing was that strictly they should not have played at all at Taunton today, as it was spitting with rain right from the start.

You had to feel for the spectators, of which there were between 1 and 2 thousand. They were well put away by the Met forecast for mostly dry with patchy rain. There was a huge blob of rain coming up from the Western Approaches on the radar overnight, which was when I was getting what I could on the draw, but the Met refused to revise their forecast.

A brilliant day for Lancashire:

:: Lancs take less than an hour to beat Worcestershire
:: Warwickshire are thrashed by Hampshire
:: Somerset get just six points from their drawn game

Lancashire don't have a Championship game until a week on Wednesday. Win that game against eighth-placed Worcs, and then again against bottom-of-the-table Hants the week after, and...

Report toffee87 August 20, 2011 8:58 PM BST
its been like that for years now though

The days were teams like somerset would have Garner, Richards and Botham playing most games have long gone

Even Lancs sides 15 years ago had fairbrother, Atherton, Crawley, Watkinson, Akram etc - 8 or 9 internationals and we came no where near winning the championship - this side is not a patch on those sides

Through gritted teeth, but Peter Moores has done a hell of a job this season getting basically average batsmen like Horton, Croft and Karl Brown to improve into good ones who get consistently good scores.

Where is the "can't stand the thought" please? We appreciate exciting cricket down here. Also, why do you think Zum fans should be seething about Kieswetter's call-up for England vs Ireland? We don't even have a Ch'ship game next week.

Will any of you Lancs supporters be making the long journey down from, er, Slough for the title decider?

Lancashire's LV= County Championship triumph will be given royal approval next month.

The new kings of English cricket have been invited to Buckingham Palace to officially receive the trophy from the Duke of Edinburgh. As patron of the Lord’s Taverners, the Duke hosts a lunch for the county champions each year after which the trophy is officially presented along with the players’ medals.

And the club have now received their official invite to this year’s ceremony on October 13. It will spark a period of celebration for the new champions.

Manchester City Council are planning a civic reception for the club.
