because cricket is not insecure, and has its own events, its own Ashes and World Cups.
i dont know why golf wanted to be in it, or Rugby via 7s. youd think the Masters and Lions Tours or whatever, would be enough. it might be that being run by INdians now, that nation with 1/4 of the worlds populations and zero medals, the Olympic committee just laughs to themselves. they might think, let this game in, what next? Kabbadi? |

According to wiki, a sport must be widely practiced in 75 countries and four continents. No idea what widely practiced means like.

all of asia does it, most of africa and the majority of europe, thats probably over 200 countries there alone eejits |

The majority of Europe (Netherlands excluded) has never even heard of cricket. It's almost exclusively played by expats.

yeah cos i mean ireland is not in europe, and neither is scotland, belgium, france, germany, italy, austria, bulgaria, estonia, finland, greece, hungary, luxembourg, malta, norway, portugal, russia, slovenia, spain, sweden and turkey

in fact google says there are 36 associate members and 60 affiliate members, making 96 in total

I'm not trying to have a go at you, but having an association means little with regards to participation levels, particularly of the non-expats.
I've lived a large part of my life in Germany and the only people who had heard of cricket were those who had seen it on British or Australian TV while on holiday. Most thought I meant croquet when I mentioned it. New York apparently has an active league, but the participants are pretty much all expats or immigrants from cricket-playing nations. |

Not in terms of participation in a large number of countries. Handball is is big in most of Europe and judging by the performances in places like South Korea and Brazil, too.
Cricket is massive in a small number of countries. The ICB applied to the IOC to be included, but didn't meet the criteria. Sorry, not trying to be anti-cricket, but that's the current situation. There are plenty of inconsistencies in the application of the criteria though. |

Darts isn't in the Olympics and I doubt ever will be.

No idea. Probably very few on an organised basis. There don't seem to be players from many nationalities on the professional circuit.
I think even the IOC would draw the line at darts despite nonsense like dressage being included. Phil Taylor did appear in a Team GB shirt recently though. |

Chess is an IOC recognised sport; as is cricket. Darts isn't.

Chess actually has an "Olympiad", which is the international team competition. Not sure how it acquired the name.
They could play blasts of music inbetween moves like they did at just about every sport here. |

If T20 cricket did get in you could have:
GB, South Africa, Australia, India, Pakistan, NZ, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Ireland, Holland, Kenya, Canada, Afghanistan then the Carribean countries like Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana More than enough for a decent tournament and surely more countries than are bothered about handball and surely more competitive than something like table tennis where every medal seems to won by the chinese |
