why is he wearing a french tracksuit?
Report Darlo Bantam August 11, 2012 11:01 PM BST
He (and others) is the reason why thousands of us couldn't get any tickets. Too many celebs and hangers on going to every single session while joe public were lucky to get any tickets.
Report Black Knight August 11, 2012 11:11 PM BST
agreed why the fk is he on  he is so out of his depth  but gabby is looking hot as usual
Report Glossy August 11, 2012 11:11 PM BST

Report Poppydog. August 11, 2012 11:15 PM BST
Thank you, Black Knight
Report Glossy August 11, 2012 11:26 PM BST
Gabby sounds like she wants to nosh Beckham off ASAP
Report noitsnotme August 11, 2012 11:27 PM BST
beckham is everything that is wrong about this country,a celebrity that has never achieved anything but constantly craves media coverage, and the bbc are as much to blame for giving it to him
Report numer0ne August 11, 2012 11:27 PM BST
well he is partly responsible for the olympics being in london...
Report Glossy August 11, 2012 11:28 PM BST
Never achieved anything?

I agree with the sentiment of your post but that clearly is not quite correct.
Report thedodgepot August 11, 2012 11:29 PM BST
I like the bloke.
Report Glossy August 11, 2012 11:30 PM BST
His heart's in the right place. Detatched from reality but who wouldn't be having lived his life from the age of 18.
Report BigRob1 August 11, 2012 11:31 PM BST
I wonder will Gabby bring up Bens unsporting tactics of delibEratly slowing down to impeed the Danish bloke.
Report ReaseHeath August 11, 2012 11:31 PM BST
Logan been the best Beeb presenter for me - Grainger very good on this one
Report LordBobbin August 11, 2012 11:32 PM BST
I think Poppy's question is probably a good part of the reason why he's there. Because he is a very big star, so if he's around, they'll grab him.  Far more people should know Ben Ainslie, for instance, since he's a quite incredible competitor. But he simply doesn't have the same star appeal.

Oh, and yeah, Gabby's looking very hot!

Those are part of the tactics of sailing, I'm afraid, and are exactly the sort of things you need to do if you're a winner through and through. It's a tough sport, and Ben is the toughest of all.

Those tactics might'nt break any rules but they are bad sportsmanship.
How many times did you see people doing it other than Ben in these Olympics?

You mean racing.

Report noitsnotme August 11, 2012 11:43 PM BST
people like wiggins, farrah and ainslie dont want the attention and they are seriously more talented than beckham in their own field
Report ReaseHeath August 11, 2012 11:45 PM BST
Ben has gone!
Report Darlo Bantam August 11, 2012 11:48 PM BST
Oh, Farah loves the attention.

Beckham = lowest common denominator
Report YOMOMMA August 12, 2012 12:06 AM BST
If David Beckham can help bring the Olympics to London just imagine what he could do for the country if he became next PM.
Report Glossy August 12, 2012 12:10 AM BST
Look at the arse on Gabby.

Safely Sky plussed

Hang on, it's Sunday - Dan Walker won't work Sundays.

I had to turn the sound down or risk burying my head up my own arse in cringe-induced seizure, to escape the sound of Beckham trying to string sentences together with that fantastic glue-like word, 'amaaazing'.

And what, exactly, was he doing there?
Report Glossy August 12, 2012 1:02 AM BST
You're being unfair on him there Armchair.

He substituted 'amazing' for 'unbelievable' a couple of times to be fair.
Report judorick August 12, 2012 1:05 AM BST
I have never ever got the national obsession with beckham

yes he was not bad for england at football but we never even made a semi final when he was playing, and when we did have a chance in 98 he got sent off against argentina

must be an old curmudgeon or something because beckham mania totally passed my by

oh and he took part in the bid for the olympics

right.... so, remind me why he gets to turn up at every event and why we have to listen to his views
Report ArmchairIdiot August 12, 2012 1:10 AM BST
I dont get it either, Judorick. His heroics against Greece went a fair way to putting him where is is, but that and looks alone shouldnt be enough. He cheated on his wife, and he still can't speak....
Report judorick August 12, 2012 1:14 AM BST
so far I've seen him at the royal wedding, the wimbledon final, the opening ceremony and countless events at the olympics (diving, bmx that I've seen)

must be nice
Report Glossy August 12, 2012 1:16 AM BST
You guys clearly don't understand the national psyche. I'm surprised but gamblers really need a grasp of how events or people are perceived in order to know whether a price is correct.

The main thing with Beckham is that he has an element of vulnerability. He's not perfect. He certainly had a temper which landed him in trouble but that is at odds with his chiseled looks and lifestyle. Even his game isn't perfect. he does the things we like in this country - he passes the ball long and shoots from distance.

...and he's a trier.

You guys should study.
Report judorick August 12, 2012 1:19 AM BST
not very convincing glossy

try again or were you being ironic?
Report Glossy August 12, 2012 1:21 AM BST
It doesn't matter whether or not you find it convincing, it's the way it is.
Report judorick August 12, 2012 1:24 AM BST
what is the way it is? you explained nothing at all
Report Glossy August 12, 2012 1:28 AM BST
That Beckham is (and will continue to be) the nation's sweetheart because of his inherent vulnerability. The things that you deride him for are the exact same things that appeal to our population and more importantly, the media lords.
Report judorick August 12, 2012 1:29 AM BST
makes no sense
Report Glossy August 12, 2012 1:30 AM BST
It probably doesn't to someone like yourself.
Report Tucho August 12, 2012 3:50 AM BST
how is he so popular? ask simon fuller

the bloke has even managed to turn andy murray into a warm and popular national hero

we haven't seen propaganda that impressive since Joesph Goebbels was about
Report the silverback August 12, 2012 9:47 AM BST
If he wasn't married to Mrs Beckham things would be very different.
