I still can't get away from Manteo Mitchell.
Ok no gold medal performance but to run that time in the first leg of the 400m relay and to continue for his team mates and country when nobody
would have held it against him if he'd been on the floor rolling around looking for sympathy he gets my vote. I don't expect anyone to agree but, to me, that
performance epitomises the Olympic spirit.

wow i just read that story, that's pretty incredible stuff!

F*ck me, what a hero. Hope the others win gold just for him after that.

Well I was going to say David Rushida but this is truly unbelievable from Holland's Epke Zonderland:

Zonderland got me off my seat clapping. Those like myself that didn't know the routine must have thought he was coming off at least 3 times. Absolutely brilliant.

As usual for me, the athletics has been the highlight. There's a pick of performances there to choose from:

Mo Farah's 10k win was just an epic race, made all the better because I was there and the atmosphere was just amazing.
David Rudisha for a wondrous show of front running and setting out to beat the world record he said he would do.
The 100m final with essentially every finisher going below 10 seconds
Usain Bolt's entertainment after winning both, particularly the 200m. It's more than just the race to him and he has breathed new life into the sport.
The American relay performer above. Highlights the Olympic spirit.

amazing that no one mentions wiggins time trial, won by 42 seconds which is a long way on a bike at 35 mph plus

does not do it for me but thought the cycling fans would be bigging that up off the back of the TDF
Report cnman August 10, 2012 5:32 PM BST
the american guy who came 2nd to farah in the 10k. unbelievable run from a caucasian
Report judorick August 10, 2012 5:33 PM BST
great shout
Report donny osmond August 10, 2012 5:35 PM BST
given the support for the american with a broken leg, its also surprising nobody mentions
cancellara  from the cycling, great bravery there too,

wiggins was great, but expected , as was bolt, so great as they were, just not quite
the cherry on top of my cake

Kath Grainger winning after 3 consecutive silvers showed true Olympic spirit

Farah & Ennis prevailing under the weight of such expectation was simply immense.  Like DB I was there and it was an experience I'll never forget.

Nicola Adams lit up the boxing venue with her smile. Wasn't bothered about women's boxing, but she was absolutely wonderful.

For non-Brit best moment.  Rudisha was brilliant.  As was the young lad who came second.  Any athletics fan will realise the significance of his time - 1:41:73 - astonishing!!
Report ReaseHeath August 10, 2012 6:14 PM BST
all of the above good shouts - Felix Sanchez comeback win in 400 metre hurdles was also something to behold.
Report judorick August 10, 2012 6:23 PM BST
very suspicious sanchez I'm afraid
Report donny osmond August 10, 2012 6:25 PM BST
kath grainger is one of the  happiest stories in many years

not nearly as suspicious as the Algerian who won the 1500m.

Came last in the semi-final in Beijing and hasn't figured at all this year.  Then suddenly he wins both his semi and the final by miles.  I was in the stadium for both SF and final, and also his medal ceremony.  Refused to stand up for the anthem.  Felt sick to the stomach, and prepared to bet my house that he was on the juice (just like Ramzi who won in Beijing).
Report judorick August 10, 2012 6:28 PM BST
aww yes disgusting stuff indeed
Report Mr Eboue August 10, 2012 6:42 PM BST
They have all been drug tested for the record.
Report ReaseHeath August 10, 2012 6:55 PM BST
if Sanchez is suspicious then surely, by definition the performance of Tinsley in second is even more so?

Aside from 2006 (49.1 secs) and 2008, Sanchez has recorded a sub 49 second 400 metre hurdles every year since 1999.

Agree about the Algerian - would not be surprised if he disappeared without trace.

Wiggins and Rudisha

(Simply because they're 'can't believe that just happened' moments)

Rudisha at 1.41.09 as a FRONT RUNNER with noone challenging was truly amazing.

Best performance of the games without a doubt.

And what a lovely guy he is.

So happy for him.

Tears still streaming down my face.

Still Rudisha for me .Mo was brilliant though.
Report judorick August 11, 2012 10:48 PM BST
rudisha was fully expected but the world record was amazing

but Mo broke new ground and the double surpasses everything for me

rudisha close second

I'm as pleased with Tom Daley's bronze as much as any of them. After what that poor lad has been through in the past 18 months, he deserved that. Could have been gold on a different night. Top stuff.

Agreed. where else are you going to get enough mugs together to make the lay side of getting a medal 325% on a daily basis?

David Rudisha, and the 15 year old Lithuanian lass from Plymouth in the swimming who really had no idea how good she was.
