cor 2/1?? blimey short enough
Report mafeking August 9, 2012 8:31 PM BST
lighning fast track and conditions could hardly be more perfect tonight. a great opportunity
Report judorick August 9, 2012 8:33 PM BST
yes it's all there

just think it will take a lightning quick start and a perfect race to get it

it's a lot to ask
Report caramba August 9, 2012 8:34 PM BST
the two fastest 200 m runners of all time is in the race
Report Horangi. August 9, 2012 8:34 PM BST
Stumped on this one.  That Berlin track must have been quick to produce 2 WR so not sure this track is any faster.

He'll need a tailwind I think, price certainly isn't too appealing.
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 8:35 PM BST
Have to think its to Bolts advantage that he had a very poor year but seems to be peaking at the perfect time to have a crack at it. I know some people say its better to keep the WR up your sleeve for one of the big money races next month but you cant put a price on standing next to the time counter in the final of the olympics with the clock stopped at a new WR.
Report GPT August 9, 2012 8:35 PM BST
Couldn't ask for better conditions,a decent Bolt start and it's gone.
Report GPT August 9, 2012 8:36 PM BST
I'd want better odds than 3.00 though.
Report buddeliea August 9, 2012 8:37 PM BST
its definitely on given the 2 main runners and the conditions, but 2/1? not for me at that price
Report judorick August 9, 2012 8:37 PM BST
takes more than a start

needs to run a perfect bend, transition well to the straight and maintain form

it's already a very quick world record

would like to see it happen, not betting myself so GL all
Report mafeking August 9, 2012 8:38 PM BST
gotta be faster surely. fastest fields ever in both womens and mens 100 finals and look at that 800. even jess ennis knocked a quarter of a second off her pb in the hurdles.
Report HorseRacingExpert August 9, 2012 8:38 PM BST
Blake 19.15
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 8:38 PM BST
Okay made my mind up. Been thinking all week i fancied it to be broken as long as the weather was favourable so not the time to back out now given the conditions could hardly be better.
Report GPT August 9, 2012 8:39 PM BST
Obviously takes more than a startCrazy

Report buddeliea August 9, 2012 8:49 PM BST
yep.me too
COME ON!!!!!!!!!
Report Hamsterdam August 9, 2012 8:52 PM BST
Bolt may well need to run a WR record to win if Blake can match his PB of 19.26! He ran a PB in the 100. Think the price should be a tad shorter..

What a donkey.
Report judorick August 9, 2012 9:04 PM BST
saving it for the grand prix season

olympics will have brought him nicely to peak fitness, so with a little break he could be in shape to break both records

will depend how much partying and shagging he wants to do
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:06 PM BST
shame this bolts not white
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:08 PM BST
ah well great race and worth losing a bet to see his celebrations afterwards.
Report sageform August 9, 2012 9:11 PM BST
His agent would have reminded him that you don't get paid for records in the Olympics but you do at Grand Prix meetings. David Rudisha did it for glory not money. He will always rank above Bolt for me.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:14 PM BST
guys a prat if u ask me . that inverdale just said he a bigger star than tiger woods wat a joke
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:15 PM BST
At least Ireland can claim a connection with tonights two stars. Rudisha is trained by an irish priest and Bolts agent is Irish.
Report judorick August 9, 2012 9:17 PM BST
tiger woods is a pariah now
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:18 PM BST
He is a bigger star than Tiger Woods. Back to back olympic sprint golds and double world record holder in a more global sport is more of an achievement than all of Tigers majors.
Report incaseof August 9, 2012 9:21 PM BST
Tiger and Federer far a head of this clown
Report sageform August 9, 2012 9:25 PM BST
We have been priviliged to watch 2 of the best athletes ever tonight in Bolt and Rudisha but the 18 yo that chased Rudisha home could be better than either of them in 4 years time. Can anyone tell me why Tiger Woods is even mentioned when he hasn't won a major for several years. Nor has Ian Woosnam and nobody mentions him any more.
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:25 PM BST
There will always be an hieracrchy of sport and at the top of the pile will always be the fastest man in the world.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:29 PM BST
pisss off bolt is not in same parish as woods, mayweather etc etc . all he does is run fast . his bank account will be bobbins compared to them 2
Report sageform August 9, 2012 9:29 PM BST
It never makes sense to me but I am clearly not in the majority. The shorter the race, the less interesting it is to watch. Applies to horses as well as humans.
Report Mr Eboue August 9, 2012 9:29 PM BST

Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:33 PM BST
Its not about money. No other individual sporting acolade comes close to being known as the fastest man in the world.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:33 PM BST
no because u dnt compete in a sport silly bollox
Report sageform August 9, 2012 9:33 PM BST
What do you see in Tiger Woods these days? Is it because he was once a good golfer? Federer is still delivering but Tiger isn't so I can't see it at all. The media seemed to only mention him during the Open although he never really looked like winning. Very strange.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:35 PM BST
mayweather my man personally. never be beat . name me an athlete whos been dominating the game for 16 years straight . tell me one just one
Report judorick August 9, 2012 9:35 PM BST
as I said

Woods is persona non grata these days, lost masses of respect, lost his aura and is not winning much

I hold him very low in my esteem

Messi and Ronaldo are bigger than Woods and Federer (and I love Rodger) but being the fastest man on earth and DOUBLE Olympic 100m AND 200m champion is truly immortal stuff.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:37 PM BST
bolts is just one dimension he runs fast thats it . good to watch tho obv but u gotta do more 4 me
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:37 PM BST
Its a subjective matter of opinion how great other sporting greats are but with the fastest man in the world there is never any debate. There is absolute clarity and you can be sure that tonight every other sports person in the world will have been watching to see who is the worlds fastest man.
Report oxracing August 9, 2012 9:39 PM BST
What price were Bolt & Blake?
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:39 PM BST
in reality nobody cares abwt bolt part from once every 4 year
Report judorick August 9, 2012 9:41 PM BST
there are more dimensions to bolt than just running fast

clearly if you think that then you have not been paying attention
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:41 PM BST
he runs fast what else he do ?
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:42 PM BST
hes a personality ye maybe but at times just acts the goat
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:48 PM BST
I will leave you with this thought. If life is ever found on other planets and there is inter planet sporting rivalry they will not be challenging planet earth in golf or tennis. They will want the 100 metres title.

All other sport is entertainment. Being the fastest man in the world is much more than entertainment.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:49 PM BST
but do u give a shitt other than the olympics ? i no 99 percent dont
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:53 PM BST
At last we agree with something. Yes, most of the time i want to be entertained by other sports. The olympics however gives the world the opportunity to marvel at human sporting achievement and we all want to be spell bound at how fast one person can run or jump.
Report paddletoe August 9, 2012 9:54 PM BST
Have a nice night and stop being cranky and twisty and enjoy the rest of the olympics.
Report oliholt August 9, 2012 9:57 PM BST
lol i suppose . would rather watch mayweather school pacquiao myself but ill accept bolt is pretty fast
Report Mr Eboue August 9, 2012 9:59 PM BST
Bolt runs against the best while Floyd is in jail and has bottled the pacquiao fight for 4 years.
Report oxracing August 9, 2012 10:08 PM BST
Anybody know what price Bolt & Blake were?
Report Mr Eboue August 9, 2012 10:13 PM BST
bolt was about 2/9

Blake 5/1
Report oxracing August 9, 2012 10:14 PM BST
Thanks
Report mafeking August 9, 2012 11:38 PM BST
more like 1.16 bolt 7.6 blake at the kick off
Report sageform August 10, 2012 7:33 AM BST
I was still much more impressed by the 800 metres. To equal David Rudisha's performance, Bolt would have needed to run under 19 seconds.
Report buddeliea August 10, 2012 7:44 AM BST
Looks like it could well have been a WR,Bolt clearly eased up.

Whoever said Bolt is wating for a Grand Prix meeting cos of the money is probably correct.

Make your own minds up how that makes him look as a great sportsman.
Report Desmond Orchard August 10, 2012 9:49 AM BST
I dunno Bud, he only eased up in the last 20m and was 0.15 off the record. MJ doesn't think he would've beaten it, saying that he knew he wasn't on WR pace and I tend to bow to his judgement.
I agree with those who say that the fastest man on earth has the capacity to trascend athletics, particularly when one is as dominant and has the persona of a Bolt. The only other comparable prize used to be Heavyweight Champ, back when it meant a bit more, which is why Ali is held to be the greatest sportsman of the last century. I suspect that in 90 years time when people are ranking the great sportsmen of the 21st Century, Bolt will be right up there.
Report dc August 10, 2012 10:07 AM BST
Buddeliea-
He missed record by 0.15 secs or about 5 ft.
When he eased up he lost no more than a foot to Blake.
Bolt has said he was going for it and I believe him.
You could see he was also going for it in the 100m final contrary to the "waiting-for-the-win-bonuses" theories being propounded by some punters.
Report buddeliea August 10, 2012 12:23 PM BST
Well i dont really want to knock him,i think hes great entertainment and a real class act.
Just saying that it is possible that he could have broke the record, and reasons why he did not.

Personally i would rather believe he eased up when he knew he had won and could not break the record.
And if Michael Johnson said that, thats good enough for me.
