Australians, envious but congratulatory. French, generous, and they loved the openining ceremony. Germans have an underlying love of the British anyway. Greeks have their distractions. The Irish, apart from our frothing flagwaving are enjoying it immensely. The world is never ambivalent about the greatest show on earth.Great Games, reputation enhanced, be proud when we do something well.

Those of us who love sports will savour every minute of it as we did Beijing, Athens, Sydney, Atlanta, Barcelona, need I go back any further? Some of us who are neutral about sports will still get caught up in it to varying degrees, spurred on by whichever country you are in, national's success. Those of us with no interest in sports will either get sucked into it for the 2 weeks, then drift away or just not bother with it at all although they'll find it difficult not to be able to avoid it. .
We have nothing else worldwide to compare it with, do we? That ranks it as the greatest show on earth. I was lucky to get to tickets to the Athletics at the weekend. Never been anywhere that provided such entertainment and all round good feeling. Great crowds, really well organised as well. Think a lot of visitors to London can only be impressed. |
