Only 18 ms under the gold medal time with worse competition. Should have tried at least.

probably knackered and not mentally up for it
Report HansUlrichApfelStrudel August 7, 2012 9:10 PM BST
The Canadian Heptathlete made it to the 100 hurdles final?

No reason Ennis couldn't have tried.

Didnt want to get injured and miss out on all the money from end of seasons Grand Prix (NAP)

So much for the Olympics being the pinnacle Wink (nb)

Would have been a hiding to nothing.

wouldn't have medalled

Jess wouldn't have medalled but also wanted to recover from a gruelling few days. She's had the eyes of the country on her all year and the emotions must have taken an awful lot out of her (more so than zelinka). As much as I'd have loved to see her compete i think she made the right decision. Plus it meant she could go and see the Stone Roses last night!

Has a priceless reputation to uphold after the Heptathlon win. Why risk that (and possible endorsements) with a less than stellar result in the 100m hurdles?

Not the first and certainly won't be the last. All in all, it's the 'smart move'.
Report mafeking August 8, 2012 1:10 AM BST
it was clear from her run in the hurdles that this is a lightning fast track and that was backed up by both the womens and mens 100m finals. she ran in much better conditions than they faced tonight too. all in all she made the right decision
Report judorick August 8, 2012 1:31 AM BST
once the gold was secure, there was no decision
Report Fela Kuti August 8, 2012 7:20 AM BST
She had an Algerian doctors certificate.
