Looking good so far after Day 1!
By:
I get the impression she's the best sprinter in there. And she's dominated so far with two of three events being described as hunt events.
By:
I would suggest best bet of the day for gold. Looks nailed on to me.
By:
Too early to count chickens. She's the best rider in the field without question, but a repeat of the tactical disaster in the points race in tonight's 10km scratch race might leave her struggling even if she wins both the others. She must not let her main opponents get away from her in the 10km like she did last night.

Looking into this a bit more and using the world champ results as a guide, after day 1 Trott was 10 points ahead of Hammer but after yesterday she is tied. Is that a concern seeing she seems to be like Ed Clancy in that she dominates the sprints but struggles in the bunch races...the yank actually beat her in the pursuit In April. Thoughts?
By:
No way is she a good thing. The scratch is a bit of a lottery and Hammer has more experience in that event. Trott's a lay for me. As in the men's the competition is weak and Hammer could easily get an unassailable lead going into the last event, even though Trott will win it.
By:
Well Hammer now leads with the scratch and TT to come. Scracth is a lottery but it does appear that Hammer has the upper hand in the bunch races, Trott will win the TT. At the worlds Hammer came 4th in the TT.

By:
Looking at past results the scratch seems to be Trott's worst leg of the omnium. I think Hammer has got this one chaps

Anyone knows when the cycling starts today?
By:
4.00pm
Trott is still favourite at 4/6 on here! |
By:
I traded for a small red on trott and evens the field
By:
If we take it as a given that Trott wins the final event she can finish 2 places behind Hammer in the scratch race and still win gold.
By:
All Trott really has to do is mark Hammer. The others are quite a way back. So long as she stays on her wheel it won't matter so much if rest of the field gain a lap so there is less chance she will find herself exposed on the front with nobody wanting to help with a chase. She only needs to concern herself with the American, not being left to reel in other randoms on her own.
By:
Having layed Trott odds on I make her favourite now and have backed her at 2.3. The market has Hammer as favourite. I'm betting Trott will put a second into Hammer in the last which would mean she'd need to finish 2 in front.
By:
Hammer 2 pts clear, assuming Laura wins she'll need Hammer to finish 4th or worse. 3rd would be a tie but tie-break is total time taken on the 3 timed sections and Hammer was a second clear in the pursuit, compared to Laura being 0.3sec clear in the flying lap. Would be tight over 500m!

2012 World Champs omnium 500m TT
Trott 35.173 Hammer 36.171 |
By:
i have got myself in a pickle and am now £5 red on hammer, 59p green on trott, after I messed up a bet
Any ideas how I can rescue this? A £1 red isnt looking bad if it can be done (sorry bout small stakes) |
By:
ty red & white, that is more than I guessed. Trott fav then, though it's odd that other riders will essentially determine the result. (Though the points race in this event seems to be a massive anti-fav operation anyway).
By:
At least Edmonson will be riding an honest race to keep bronze. On form she will finish second.
By:
what happens if trott wins the last event and hammer is second hammer would then win gold then is that right
By:
That's correct.
By:
Yes. Trott has got to finish at least 2 places hugher than Hammer.
By:
I was wondering about them all trying ,they must be sick of GB winning virtually everything .
By:
cheers
By:
or if hammer wins if shecomes third and within about 0.65s if i've understood this correctly.
By:
looks like I am waving goodbye to my profit for the day :/
By:
Yes, 0.681 seconds is the gap according to my calcs.
By:
We've put a shift in here. I'm knackered.
By:
already 1 rider in between those times posted above (though obv on a different track so don't know how comparable it is)
By:
Edmondson can come 5th and keep bronze.
By:
guys, this is not my field...but surely, it's a danger for Trott here to be beaten by Edmonson who was very close behind her at the World Championships...? It's not like the 1st place is guaranteed, so Trott could be looking at 2nd and 4th places for her and Hammer with the right time...?
By:
Sanchez did the ideal time for Trott
By:
It's fair to say all the GB riders have improved since the Worlds.Or at least the equipment has.
By:
yes that's a potential complication zappy
By:
i think hammer will go faster than 36 secs
By:
Trott slight fav for me
By:
or at least get very close

Hammer time !
