Landed just behind the lane 6 on the 'get set'
A harder throw may have resulted in chaos

My impression was that it was a plastic bottle, but it would have had to have been over half full
to go that distance and bounce like that
Report Sudoku_Junior August 5, 2012 10:27 PM BST
It had to be plastic poppydog, no way anyone could have got a glass bottle through security and only plastic bottles are served.

I was there on Friday night right at the front of the 200-300m curve (atrocious view for a very expensive ticket).  The heptathlon girls were going up to their coaches in the crowd right there for tips (it was as if they had never done the shot-putt before the way they demonstrated a terrible technique and the coach corrected them).

It would have been ridiculously easy for a streaker or protestor to jump over the 1m high barrier with only volunteers every 5 or 10m at the edge and no other security or moat.

the darts (mainly at the walk on stage) got me thinking about uni a few yrs ago.

Id often see other teammate using this gel like substances grip enhancers.  Tried them once or twice and they really helped grip the ball and improve  my service.

Imagine someone ...high fiving adrian lewis or taylor before a game. Laugh  would bring on a sudden case of dartitis.

Spectator arrested after bottle thrown at 100m final
A man has been arrested after a plastic bottle was thrown onto the athletics track directly behind the starting blocks just moments before the 100m final.

By Victoria Ward

11:28PM BST 05 Aug 2012

The spectator was taken from the Olympic stadium to a police station after the incident, which threatened to disrupt the highly anticipated race.

Dutch judo competitor Edith Bosch tweeted that she had punched the "drunken" culprit.

The sound of the bottle landing just behind athletes including eventual winner Usain Bolt could be heard on video footage just after the starter told the runners to “set”.

A security guard could also be seen making his way to the offender, who was not in shot.

One spectator wrote on Twitter:” Man in front of me threw bottle onto track just at start! Had to be wrestled off ...”

Another said: “So a drunk p---- actually threw a bottle onto the track as 100m started! He got punched by Dutch judo bronze medallist Edith Bosch tho.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman said that no one was injured during the incident and that the event was not affected in any way.

“A man was arrested inside the Olympic Stadium on suspicion of causing a public nuisance on the evening of Sunday, 5 August,” he said.

“The man had been heard to shout abuse and then throw a plastic bottle on to the track immediately prior to the start of the men's 100m final.

“He remains in custody at an east London police station.”

A Locog spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and are looking into it.”

A Dutch medal-winning judoka punched a drunken spectator who threw a bottle onto the track moments before the men’s 100m final.

In an incident that threatened to marr the biggest event of London 2012, a bottle landed in the area behind the athletes just fractions of a second before the starting gun.

A man has been arrested.

Dutch judo bronze medallist Edith Bosch tweeted that she had been sitting nearby and had 'beaten' the "drunken" culprit.

Bosch, competing in the 70kg category in her fourth Games, added that she had missed the race as a result.

She reportedly told Dutch TV that the man had shouted "USA" and "Bolt bad".

The sound of the bottle landing was clearly audible on television footage after the starter had told the runners to “set”. A security guard could be seen getting up to approach the offender.

For the first time at the Olympics, any athlete false starting is ejected from the race just as Usain Bolt was at the World Championships last year.

Another witness, @RanmerWelshCobs, tweeted: “Man in front of me threw bottle onto track just at start! Had to be wrestled off...”

She should be arrested. If it was any other day and a member of the public had done that, they would have been arrested.

Storm in a plastic bottle this one really.

If this is the biggest problem in 5 million visits to Olympic venues over a week we should be very pleased.

That said I like the idea of being tied to the field in javelin heats as a creative punishment.

I suppose the millions of pounds sent drafting in the military is justified now, I must admit I am a bit of a sceptic when it comes to terrorism and the Olympics but I guess that shuts me up.
