bbc coverage.
female interviewer chatting to the public who have gone to london today to see the torch etc. asks them if they are for or against the olympics. given that they are standing on the bridge watching todays events i would hazard a guess they are for it.
they were asking who was lighting the torch, one women said 'john smith', another had heard the same. the interviewer said she hadnt heard of him.
u couldnt make it up.
when i then told my missus it might well be roger bannister, she asked who he was.
women and sport. i give up.

For my sins, I occasionally catch the National Lottry Game show that Dale Winton hosts.

Without fail, every woman that appears on there, when given a sports question, go 'Ooooh, now. I'm not very good on Sports.'

Well what do you expect on a General Knowledge quiz?? LEARN you imbecile!!

Sorry but that's nothing to do with women and sport, that's just modern TV broadcasting in a nutshell, particularly the BBC.

In some long and distant past it used to be presented by experts who tried to inform people sitting at home.

Now the whole business is fronted by a bunch of vapid, failed catalogue models, chatting inane bullsh1t to clueless members of the public as part of a 'truly interactive news experience'.

Des Lynam must be turning in his grave.

24 rolling hour news, it's literally the worst thing to ever happen to western civilization.

I agree Tucho, bbc sports coverage has a lot of room for improvement. The presenters and commentators alike.

Well of course Tucho, though I'd take issue with Des Lynam being held up as some sort of Reithian model of communications brilliance.

The rot started with his 'Hey, tell you what....' old smoothie schtik.

I'm not asking for some Neville Cardus / EW Swanton figure tweedily intoning the facts of Glamorgan's first innings against Somerset, but some jumped up little chancer attempting to build a racy persona, with an eye to the lucrative after-dinner circuit, can just go die.

The BBC needs to learn that it is not about telling us what has gone on that day, over and over again. It is about showing us what is going on now. They are a broadcaster first and a news station second.

Who on earth made the decision to allow you know who be the lead commentator for tonight's opening ceremony? Dreadful to say the least and my head has caved in with the triviality, banality and raspiness of that person's presentation.
