Hello, is mens fours the same thing as mens coxless fours?
|
|
By:
If someone could let me know shortly that would be great. I've placed a couple of arbs and I don't know have a clue about rowing.
|
|
By:
Yes it is
Eights is now the only coxed events at the Games, so thankfully Garry Herbert bawling his eyes out like a t1t next to the Searle brothers is consigned to the dustbin of history. NB Quads is the Sculling event with 4 in a boat, but with two blades each. |

Great stuff. I am not only interested myself but have 4 boys under 11 for whom this kind of summary just breeds so much anticipation as it gives context. Thanks and keep us posted.

My initial thought:
If you are watching on TV, turn off the commentary and (wait for it) turn on Alan Green, Martin Cross and James Cracknell on the radio. Dan Topiolski and Garry Herbert are absolute dogsh1t. They simply get even basic facts wrong. For God's sake DO NOT BET ON ANYTHING THEY SAY IN COMMENTARY. Seriously - they are that bad! Otherwise, Murray and Bond were just awesome in the Mens Pair. A World Best time - put your house on them to win, but Our boys Nash and Satch are right in the mix for even silver now (and I had them as possible bronzes before the regatta). Our Mens Eight will come on for another race in the repechage. Silver I reckon - the Germans are too classy but America are show-ponies. They were sucking wind at the end of their heat. Our Women's Pair were so smooth and got us off to a flyer, Nothing's ever nailed on but.... Our Women's quad are out - ruined by injuries basically. The rest were as expected pretty much Tomorrow I'll be there and it's like the eve of Cheltenham for me now! Come on Vicky - bring home the Eight girl!!! |

Hey hey HEY!!
What about that then? Rowing gets the ball rolling and there's more to come. |

All the BBC creating huge disappointment for the 8s
It was amazing. Didn't settle for Silver threw everything into winning an unexpected Gold. Could so easily have lost any medal with all that effort. Bronze a bonus for a magnificent attempt at Gold. Anything but disappointment |

Bang on Poppydog - and well done to the Germans for 4 years unbeaten.
That race was sport at its finest. |

South African crew included a black rower I noticed
|
|
By:
Daughter has just bumped into Heather Stanning at Dorney.
Her medal is huge and the crowds have cottoned on to who she is and she's getting mobbed!! |
|
By:
why has nobody from the BBC asked Redgrave why there are no black rowers in Team GB?
Imagine if our football squad had 18 white men in it. |
|
By:
Because none are good enough?
Mohammed Sbihi is of Moroccan extraction and is a member of the Mens Eight. Would love to see talent spotting exercises extended to the inner cities and then put these kids into the Club system at places like Lea, Tideway Scullers, London Rowing Club. Agecroft up in Manchester, Runcorn, Tees etc. Hopefully, with rowing contributing a medals glut to this olympics, funding should be secure from the Lottery and chief sponsor Siemens has got to be pleased and, one hopes, would come on board for another four years to put in place funding for such grand plans. |

Football is purely working class. If however the upper class lads took it seriously we could balance out the intelligence of the team.
