from a non-betting perspective?

The real possibility of the first ever GB Women's Rowing Gold Medal in the shape of our 'double H women's pair', (Heather Stanning and Helen Glover - what did you think I was talking about?)

...closely followed by a second for Kath Grainger and Anna Watkins in the Double Scull, where Kath has three Olympic Silvers to her name. A Gold would be a fitting tribute to Grainger who has been the figurehead for GB Women's rowing for ages now.

I have a sneaking fancy that Kath Grainger might carry the flag at the opening ceremony

The mens 200m and 400m freestyle which include the 2 new stars of male swimming in Yannick Agnel and Yang Sun and will possibly be the highest quality fields ever assembled for a swimming final.  The 200m field is so strong that Phelps pulled out of that event.  Watch out too for Missy Franklin the emerging star of Womens swimming who is in 7 events and fave for about 5 of them.  Were it not for her I think China would have topped the medal table. As it is she tips the balance in the US's favour.

Also looking forward to Mo Farah in the 10k and 5k.  Think he's got a better chance in the 10k but thought that last year too when he ended up getting beat in the 10k but winning the 5k

got lucky in the ballot for the rowing and picked up the tickets for athletics off the french olympic committee's ticket agency last month. paid a bit over the odds but still much less than the generally top whack tickets that keep popping up on the official site

the first saturday night august 4 should hopefully be the night to be there from a home perspective. think the 10000 pretty much follows  straight after the 800 in the heptathlon and got the womens 100m final thrown in too.

I'm a combat sportsman myself, have been for nearly 40 years so I will be focused on:

judo - watch out for Teddy Riner (Fra); hoping to sneak a bronze out of the GB team (unlikely)

boxing - women box for the first and 3 brits go for us (Tasha Jonas a big chance); Tom Stalker ranked #1

tae kwon do - Sarah Stevenson to avenge the balls up by officials in Beijing

But I also love gymnastics, tennis, weightlifting, athletics, diving

and will cheering on the inevitable cycling, rowing and sailing medallists

will be glued to it

Athletics for me. Most interested in men's distance events & have tickets for 3 evenings at the stadium. Got 100m but would swap for 5000m or 10000m.

Also will be working managing part of the course for triathlon & road cycling so hopefully witness some Team GB success close up.  Going to rowing too.

Will be awesome.

If you live in London, is that ever the case (genuine question)? I thought the place was a driving nightmare anyway?

Good to see a variety of responses. I am looking forward to watching all of the swimming and especially athletics. Shame we are no longer the dominant nation in middle distance events but we now have strength in other areas. The triathlon for men should be a procession for the Brownlees barring accidents. The one thing I won't be watching is the opening ceremony. It has nothing to do with sport and is put on purely for the politicians and bureaucrats to show off. I would not attend it if you paid me £100 to sit in one of the best seats but I would love a ticket to the athletics even if it was only a session of heats. As you get older though, the thought of the travelling and waiting around makes the wall to wall TV coverage a much more attractive option. I attended the Commonwealth games athletics in Manchester. I was a long way from the track and wished I was at home instead.

Jess Ennis will undoubtedly be the highlight for me (as long as she gets gold). Also looking to forward to the remainder of the athletics. swimming, cycling and gymnastics will be great too. Laura Trott in the omnium takes my vote of the non athletics events. It's like cycling's version of musical chairs!

Come on Jess!

Athletics is by far the best thing about the Olympics but I also like watching the swimming and don't mind the boxing. Will take only a passing interest in anything else.

The Mens Four in the Rowing is going to be an immense 'Aashes' battle.

May as well get my story about this one out the way now:

My wife and I went to Munich to see the last Rowing World Cup competition back in June. Our daughter was competing in the last event on Saturday evening, so by the time she had finished her drug testing and media commitments, it was pretty late

The site is a fair distance from the railway station and there were no taxis around. Also, there were few German-speaking people who we could ask to call a taxi for us. My wife and I decided we would try to ask someone for a lift.

We spotted a mini bus leaving the regatta complex and the two of us – middle aged, pretty sunburnt and very dishevelled after a day in the stands at the regatta, clad in GB shorts and T-Shirts – flagged down said minibus. They were English speakers (good), they were going by the station (better) they we’re happy to give us a lift (result!!).

It was only when we got in and started talking that the guys in the van explained they were the Australian Men’s 4- team who had won their semi-final that day and were racing again in the final on Sunday.

In the 15 minutes or so it took to take us to the station, we swapped stories and both my wife and I thought ‘a nicer bunch of guys you couldn’t wish to meet.’ In terms of PR and friendliness, it was a huge and priceless gesture.

Hopefully we part-repaid our debt of gratitude by giving the crew a cheer at the medal ceremony on Sunday. The Aussie boys recognised us up in the stand and gave us a wave, which was nice.

So for my part, it’s mixed emotions now.

Yes we want the GB Four to reverse placings but then again, Pete Reed and Andy Triggs-Hodge have never given us a lift anywhere, so what am I to do?

One of the female presenters actually having an orgasm live on air, because the way they've been acting up to know, and it's been building up all week, they seem to be in serious practice for some climatic crescendo coming up. What is it to be, the Opening Ceremony, the cycling, a few surprise Team GB Golds, getting off with Harry? Roll on the actual events please.
