Orphan genes are genes with no rrecognizable ancestral links. In a scan of any genome, a large percentage is not related to any other plant or animal on eArth. Between ten and thirty percent. so we no llonger are a 99 percent match to any ape. It's more like eighty percent. But it gets worse apes also have orphan genes. So it looks like a bigger gulf oopening up.
DNA has three billion lletters in the human genome. a gene is a long segment wwithin that like a train of caterpillars, each connected to each other, some are a few thousand letters long. Others millions of letters long. In humans 15-25 percent of these long chains, are not a match to anything. So iimagine an abstract canvas , pain't it green, then take ttwenty percent and pain't it red. That's a human. Now paint another canvas green, paint twenty percent blue. That's an ape. Are we a match. Clearly not a match.
