18 people were killed Sunday, May 31, making it the single most violent day in Chicago in six decades, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab. The lab’s data doesn’t go back further than 1961.
Most homicide victims in Chicago are young, black men, and the suspects are, too. But murders have fallen significantly in recent years, along with police-involved shootings.

If all you think these types of activists call for is for the police to stop being bad then you really have missed the point as usual. However, ideas that would lift up poor or inner city communities that are often black is just seen as far left radical ideas And yes, critical analysis of the endemic problems when done by racists is going to get accusations of racism. The Dems do pay lip service to black voters, because they know that they have nowhere else to go. They are bad and shouldn't be trusted but essentially Republicans are just for more severe versions of **** dem policy |

If people were dying and say 95% were killed by Lions and 5% by Elephants, it would seem sensible to focus most of your attention on the Lions.

When all people do is bring up these murders in response to people calling out other issues, it only has to be seen in bad faith like all conservative exposes of what they believe to be hypocrisy
Depends whether it talks about structural issues and class or is just low grade black people are dumb and violent **** really. The US didn't decide racism was over in the 60s and any issues in poor neighbourhoods were suddenly solved. Are poor people just worse people and that is why they commit more crimes? |

The Minneapolis City Council unanimously approved a pledge to seek the replacement of its police department with a so-called community-led public safety system amid pressure from Black Lives Matter and far-left Democrats to defund law enforcement in the wake of protests and riots over George Floyd’s death.
“The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police officers is a tragedy that shows that no amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community, especially Black people and people of color,” the five city council members wrote in the resolution. The vote follows a veto-proof majority of the council members voting to disband the department. Last Thursday, Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender vowed that the council will “dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a transformative new model of public safety.” Minneapolis City Council member Jeremiah Ellison, son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, echoed Bender’s pledge. “We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. And when we’re done, we’re not simply gonna glue it back together. We are going to dramatically rethink how we approach public safety and emergency response. It’s really past due,” he tweeted. The development places the council at odds with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, (D) who has voiced opposition to defunding the city’s police department during a recent Black Lives Matter protest, prompting demonstrators to boo him away.
