A council has dramatically abandoned its plan to take down a seaside statue of Lord Baden-Powell today after his supporters blocked a removal team brought in following pressure from Black Lives Matter protesters who branded him racist, homophobic and fascist.
Former Scouts, some from more than 100 miles away, had rushed to Dorset and formed a ring of steel around the bronze monument, fending off a disposal crew in Poole Quay at 7.30am as the campaign to remove 92 historic monuments in Britain hurtles on.
And this afternoon Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Councillor Mark Howell said that the removal is off for today because contractors didn't want to work in a 'circus', adding: 'We will be providing 24-hour security until it is either removed or the threat diminishes. It is possible we might not take it away at all'.
Lord Baden-Powell was honoured with a statue in Poole 12 years ago because he founded the world Scout Movement that has helped tens of millions of children - and the bronze monument looks out to Brownsea Island where he held the first Scout camp in 1907.

It the principle that blackwashing history and tearing the country to bits has been avoided in this case.
If those doing the blackwashing had genuine interests to improve 'inequalities' related to 'race' they should be able to acknowledge and discuss past failings showing wrong from right,they should also acknowledge subsequent improvements and be prepared to accept past failings from their side. The agenda driven blackwashing doesn't allow for this. |

Wikipedia sounds like he wasn't really a fan of Hitler. Just a huge fan of Mein Kampf and bemoaned that Hitler betrayed it.
In 1939 Baden-Powell wrote in his diary: "Lay up all day. Read Mein Kampf. A wonderful book, with good ideas on education, health, propaganda, organisation etc. – and ideals which Hitler does not practise himself." |

The scouts and Boys brigade were great for young people and they learnt a lot, guess it's not what it was years ago now, but most who joined loved it, why take a monument down of someone who gave young people a great way of spending their spare time and taught them so much.

The Hitler Youth learned many useful skills for life were well organised and athletic a similar organisation would pay dividends in modern society.

not much in there to suggest he did much wrong he may have been a repressed homosexual so what plenty of men probably were back in the day, nothing about abuse etc, hitler youth approached him about ties to the scouts that never happened as for the statue outside the BBC - NCCL/LIberty say they dont know what all the fuss is about... |

we cant go back in history saying this was right or wrong.in that time all different things were acceptable that we would frown upon these days.however they happened so we have to accept it and move on.the worst thing to do is bury it and try to make on it didnt exist.its real life it happened.live and learn.

Karl Marx and Gandhi were apparently both quite racist. Are their statues and commomorations on the commie mob hit list and if not why not?
