COPS had to break up an illegal rave in the woods after hundreds of “selfish idiots” partied while flouting lockdown rules.
Shocking footage shared on social media shows the huge crowd dancing and drinking in woodland on the border of Kirkby and Rainford, Merseyside.
Officers turned around 200 people after blocking routes to the site on Friday night.
At 5.30am on Saturday, four men were arrested after cops watched them packing up DJ equipment. Their equipment was also seized by police.
Three ravers were taken to hospital with broken bones and burns suffered during the illegal gathering.
ILLEGAL RAVE
Ngaire Waine, Chief Superintendent of Merseyside Police, said a male sustained a broken leg, a female sustained a broken ankle, while another suffered burns to her legs.
She said drugs and alcohol were consumed during the rave and some of those caught said they were “protesting against the lockdown”.
She told the Liverpool Echo: “All those attending have put themselves and others in the community at significant risk.
“Not only have they risked catching and spreading the coronavirus, but due to the numbers of people consuming of drugs and alcohol in dark woods, somebody could have quite easily got seriously hurt or worse.”
Under current government guidelines, mass gatherings are banned and people from different households are only allowed to come together in groups of no more than six.
Chief Superintendent Waine added: “Having to deal with these sorts of unnecessary incidents puts an extra strain on both police and our partners, at a time when all key workers face a huge challenge to join the national effort to beat this pandemic while continuing to protect the public."
SOCIAL DISTANCING?
Kirkby residents slammed the partygoers, with many locals branding them "selfish".
One said: "Something wrong with them. Numbers are going up people are still catching this virus but its ok let's have a rave."
Another added: "Knowsley has one of the highest rates of the virus in the country and I can't believe people in this country are so selfish the sun comes out the idiot brigade hit beaches and parks but to see so many selfish idiots from the area where we live is disgusting."

Consistently against the blanket lockdown but in favour of social distancing to slow the spread.
