I think it was Jon Snow who said children from disadvantage backgrounds entered primary school 2 years behind and that by the time they left secondary school they were 3 years behind. His argument was that was a terrible indictment of our education system and that disadvantaged kids had been failed.
His reasoning was completely flawed. It was the intervention of the education system that reduced the gap from losing 2 years of educational development every 5 years to losing 1 year in 11 or 13. |
