I liked them early on, Rock and Roll star was my fav.

their 2 best albums were their first 2 mostly written before they made, the rest ok but no where near that standard, maybe lesson to be learned, write several albums before making it big, reminds me of the boxing quote ” It’s tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5am when you’ve been sleeping in silk pajamas”...could apply the same to musicians, once the money rolls in the motivation rolls out.

Normally all about the love and very open minded about people no matter where they're from, which imaginary cloud they pray to or what they look like but Oasis are piss and everyone who likes them should have their ears donated to more worthy souls.

I certainly am saddo. Sadly, it's just an example of the Oasis issue. Lots of people liked Boyzone, people love Eastenders and Corrie, The Sun is bought by millions. Unfortunately, history shows that some people are easily swayed and look to others to tell them how to think. If my crusade only opens one pair of eyes it'll be worth it.

NME had 2 of their albums in the top 100 greatest albums of all time. Suppose they know nothing about music either, or the millions who bought them and still listen to them

Popularity has never been a measure of quality. Success depends on good management, timing and convincing radio station and MTV bods that this band is the one. For every Oasis there are a thousand more talented bands who sold a mere fraction of their numbers.

Google my username ffs. That band is genuinely one of the best British bands of the last twenty years but I bet I'm the only one on here who's ever heard of them.

yes, because they're crap and that usually sinks to the bottom, you can't compare bozyzone to Oasis, Boyzone's fanbase were kids.

And Oasis's fan base were lager swilling louts who thought The Word was top culture. Mass appeal pop, of which Oasis happily and speedily inserted themselves is almost always bilge. Not quite always buy near enough.


Fwiw, I actually like 2 of their songs. Acquiesce and the Kinks pastiche that Noel sings on one of the later albums. Rest of it is just derivative, obvious crud. Ooh, look at Noel. He's learned a minor 7th chord and thinks he's Brian May. Ooh look at Liam, he looks like he doesn't care what you think, he's amazing.

I mean, I latched on to that side of pop when I was listening to the Police, Adam and the Ants and the Boomotown Rats when I was still at junior school so it's just beyond transparent.

Some might say was fantastic, Wonderwall was a crime against humanity, the rest i'm indifferent to.

From what I can remember, the 90s was just an entire music culture trying to be half as good as the Stone Roses and failing, some great drum n bass, and the best band ever Belle and Sebastian.

belle and seb lol another mediocre group, Oasis are not the best band ever at all and most of the stuff they put out post Morning Glory was largely forgettable, but their first two albums is far better than most the the naff 80's pap, though Stone Roses were obv good.

Ok that is funny. I’ll raise you everything by Stock, Aitkin and Waterman but I did like the first two albums. Nostalgia plays a big part for people not bigly into music and some of W’Oasis music was a backdrop to a lot of fun times. I still play Blondie, The Stranglers and of course The Clash.

Oasis blatantly state that they were influenced by the Beatles,but exactly how many artists don't have some sort
connection/sound based on whats gone before.Very few are unique.

Almost none even Kraftwerk had influences

In centuries to come there are only probably half a dozen bands /artists remembered, Abba,The Beatles,Led Zepplin,Dylan,and Stones and possibly the beach boys.

Not often I agree with jed, but need to second his love of Belle and Sebastian. One of the finest British groups to come through in the 90's. Though there's a clear drop off once Isobel left the group.


Not too sure about The Stone Roses. I missed on all that at the time and was still in my teenage metal/soon to be grunge phase. I mean I've got the debut album like everyone else and I do like it but I think it's way overrated. I remember getting a guitar book a couple of years ago and couldn't believe how easy it was to play the songs. Squire has always been held up as a proper guitar god alongside Johnny Marr but it's all just basic arpeggiated chords with a capo on. Piece of piss.


Anyway, just my roundabout way of saying Britpop was absolutely awful. And I was there at the time. Swept up in it all. Was on the side of Blur as they were just a bit more interesting, had more going on and, in Graham Coxon, had a proper interesting guitarist too. Damon couldn't sing for sh!t though.

But the rest of it? Pulp - couple of good singles. Suede - not bad to be fair. Boo Radleys had two really good albums, but then went quickly downhill. Elastica did one decent album then a load of drugs.

The best of the lot for me was Supergrass. Often dismissed as jokey kids due to that early vid but the second album is a masterpiece.

But the rest of them - Gene, Menswear, Echobelly etc etc  - all lauded to the hills. Utter bilge.

Oh and Olivia Newton John.

there was a lot of rubbish but every era has that, the verve and manic street preachers were far from awful, Slide Away by Oasis was also a favourite of Paul McCartney. Everyone rips of everyone in music or more to be more precise every is influenced by what went before them, the Beatles themselves were influenced by American rock and roll, likes of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, never sure why people get so anal about similarities, it's a musical chain, once a genre is born you can't reinvent the wheel.

Their Creation label mates were far more interesting, Chain, Fanclub, Ride, MBV etc
