I grew up in Nottingham, my school changed from a grammar to a comprehensive so we had a blank year to facilitate this, once the new influx arrived the proportion of blacks,asians and mixed race pupils increased from less than 10% to around 40%.Most of the new influx bussed to school from a couple of miles away,an area close to red lights district of Hyson Green.The areas bordering are Forest fields,Radford and Lenton,we had kids from all 3 of these areas at the school.The 81 race riots(so called) spread to Nottingham one Saturday nightand a big shoe shop was looted and went out of business. Nearly every ethnic minority kid had new shoes ,trainers or football boots the following week.
