Leeds Castle, it's in fookin Kent. Anywhere nice is disappointing when you see the crowds, I'm not a sociopath but I've enjoyed Italian cities in the winter months and know I would hate the same places in summer. You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye.

Your reaction made me check up on Leeds castle and to my surprise I find it’s in Maidstone,I can assure you every time I parked up on Folkestone racecourse there was a sign saying Leeds castle ,so I just presumed it was the little building there
I have on many occasions told people including my children that Leeds castle is on Folkestone racecourse
Thank you for putting me right [:s

Mona Lisa, not only is it such a boring picture but apparently tourists can't really see it as there's usually a crowd in front of them holding up camera phones, why would you go all that way to hold up a camera when there are trillions of other images online, surely seeing it with your own eyes would be better. Never been myself though.

This is admittedly a bit specific to forumites from Belfast: in the seventies an acquaintance of my parents - renowned, it must be said, for being a bit of a grump - upon returning from a trip to Venice, described it as being "like the Divis Flats with the Lagan running through them"

Foxy, I jest but yeah it's just a tiny city. In summer very much at capacity. Half the centre's been bought by people who do not live there, most of it occupied by air bnb. The city not able and or unwilling to deal with the latter. The red-light bit is a plain travesty. Whole streets with people shoulder to shoulder as if in line for something they never arrive at. Like Disney World on a bad day, but with lots of beer
Im not bitter
If you do intend to go you're much better off out of season. Particularly if you'd like to visit any museum

So much to see out there you could spend a lifetime of just exploring new places. I would go to Porto or Barcelona again or stay there for a while but that's an atmosphere and culture and food and all that thing, not really about new sights
Fingers crossed there'll still be affordable plane tickets

Barcelona residents suffer from the same problem that Amsterdam residents suffer from, overtourism, https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexledsom/2019/07/12/barcelona-is-ready-to-shut-out-tourists/#3a2ad2645546also messages like this from locals "tourist,
I stayed in Barcelona with a family member so got to eat and drink at the "local" cafes, bars & restaurants. It was so different to the usual tourist places you can find yourself being steered towards

Yes Ramblas Barcelona for one is about as bad as it gets. And all popular destinations suffer these problems. Hell even local places most of us never heard of or thought obscure enough get people brought in by the bus loads because they for instance happen to be listed at some Chinese travel agent
And, bar a pandemic or two, it's only going to get worse

Barcelona hot ? it is 6c warmer than London year round , 10 v 16 winter & 23 v 29 summer and one of those places that rarely gets any extreme heat or cold ..it's a perfect climate
for sunshine it's similar to how it's been here for the last 3-4 months , 700-800 hours MrApMy
'here' means southern or south eastern England , not the grotty northern **** end of the UK that has similar weather to Norway

If you live in Burnley for example Bendidorm is still a lovely place to visit ...all a matter of degree .
I can't imagine anyone from Cornwall for example thinking Benidorm or a dozen other resorts are nice .
that's why all the people there on holiday are from the grim cities .

Barcelona is by the sea, you're not going to get as hot as inland areas or searing temps
But it's average temperature of 6 degrees warmer makes it a more reliable place to visit for good weather, in London in summer you tend to get more dramatic swings, well over 30°c one day, 19 degrees the next.

obviously the further south you travel towards the equator it will get hotter by the coast _________________
generally speaking yes ...but there are exceptions... Vigo,Santander and La Coruna in Spain will have cloudier cooler conditions in Summer than say Bournemouth .
But yes, Barcelona will be a lot more reliable than London .... it's just the sweeping generalisation amongst people that Spain is this hot country lol ..... it does get very hot in summer in the southern interior mind you

Barcelona is around 40N Latitude ..so very much a northerly location ...about the same as NYC ...but i find the climate there is good apart from the lack of rain ...something i'm starting to actually dislike about east anglia .... it hasn't rained for weeks and weeks and i'm missing the rain ,as are the gardens

Spain has the only desert in Europe, Coach, average temperature is important, though yes it can be very rainy in the north, remember when I was in South Spain in September time, a lot of Spanish people staying there, thought it was strange, til I realised they were bused down from the north.

Seville 25c Barcelona is 20c
Paris is 16c London is 15.5c

there may be some heat trapped in overnight ...but daytime highs generally aren't a great deal different ..London is 0.5 warmer daytime than Cambridge in summer ,so any difference is minimal .
but people who say London is 5 or 6c warmer than surrounding towns are talking nonsense lol
London isn't even 5 or 6 warmer than Inverness
