Annemarie Plas, architect of the “clap for carers” gesture, has said next Thursday’s event, the tenth, should be the last.

The 36-year-old, from South London, told the PA news agency: “I think it’s good to have the last of the series next Thursday, because to have the most impact I think it is good to stop it at its peak.

“Without getting too political, I share some of the opinions that some people have about it becoming politicised.

“I think the narrative is starting to change and I don’t want the clap to be negative.

“A clap is something normal people can do, showing our appreciation. But the power is not with us. We can give them respect but we are not signing the cheque - that falls on another desk.”

Plas suggested resurrecting the clap in 2021 to mark a year since the coronavirus outbreak.

I mentioned this last night. They were out clapping and I said someone will have to tell them when to stop because it looks a bit foolish.

It's a bit radical tbf, how about people think for themselves for once.

Cider, I have been well surprised at how many automaton types are around during this-sometimes- farcical episode. People used to be made of sterner stuff.

social media, saddo. Of course many people were fake in the past but the social media age has taken the need to appear to be a good human being to another level. Hence the NHS becoming a religion, rainbows, fake vegans, fake fasting, ornamental instruments, cultivated bookcases, the defence of china and islam etc.

I think a few more weeks and probably till the end of June 2020 as it's beginning to have run its course. Thereafter at the same time and day a chorus of boos for the government for their handling of this pandemic.

I don't like the idea of booing for Boris every Thursday ....   that should be on the Monday instead .

Keep the  clapping ,it's good for street spirit and a it's a nice get together  ...goes on for about 10 minutes Cool
