I'm always perplexed to see people flocking to Brighton beach on a sunny day.The " beach" is $hit.Might as well go and sit on a pile of rubble.

Last time I was at Burnham Beeches, someone asked me the way to the sea.

Brighton have closed their nudist beach if people were going there to either sunbathe or lech

When I was little, my parents and I used to catch the 441 bus from Slough to Burnham Beeches as our Sunday afternoon outing. Took me several visits before it dawned on me that not only was there no sand or sea there at all, but also no ice cream or funfair either.

A bitterly disappointing "treat" when you're five years old.

Is that why you moved to Somerset?

Burnham's beaches don't exactly offer all the fun of the fair either.

The best beaches in the UK are all in the South West, beaches/seaside towns around kent and essex are in a word, rubbish, borderline depressing, ok maybe 3 words.

All the beaches in the UK are c*ap, its never warm enough for a prolonged period of time to be worthwhile

And then there's the tide Cry

The beaches in Northern Ireland take some beating, it's like the Caribbean when the sun's out.Cool
Report impossible123 May 18, 2020 12:10 PM BST
I agree Brighton beach is poo even on a nice clear sunny day. The last time I was there (the year Australia won the Derby) the beach had more pebbles than sand, and it was quite blowey too. There were many immigrants from nearby areas, and probably asylum seekers too (I believe) who were not speaking English.

I much prefer Bournemouth with its cleaner sandy beaches - it was also less breezy; an even proportion of locals and day trippers with barely any immigrant/asylum seekers speaking their own lingo. It's a bit further to travel but definitely worth it.

A weather report is necessary before planning a journey. Get there early and a good time to be had could be assured for the day.

that she had traveled for 1 and 1/2 hours in a car and was complaining about how many people on the beach. she couldn't see she was the problem she was moaning about.

If I want to go to a beach I expect to get there by plane! As for all those enticing photo's of other uk beaches there is only one thing missing....warmth!

I quite like Brighton but obviously don't go on the beach for obvious and reasons stated here! But it is a bustling town with a lot of interesting things going on and interesting shops in The Lanes. One of my favourite restaurants is Havanna's, which, is reassuringly expensive but it is a nice setting.
Report darren_discombobulates_sports May 19, 2020 7:37 PM BST
Can't Brighton import proper sand to their beaches, I'm sure other places have done that, would be incredibly expensive no doubt but worth it in the long run

Whispering - Havana is closed but is now Number 32 (Duke Street) - same owner and still good.  Riddle and Finns (Seafood Restaurant) in the Lanes now has a restaurant right on the beachfront near to the I360. Thoroughly recommended, when it reopens!!

Nooooooooooooooooooooo!

Really?

Thank you for that will look up the menu. It was a great venue. The food was pretty good although overpriced but I could live with that.

Thanks again!
Report Whisperingdeath May 19, 2020 10:15 PM BST
Gosh prices the same as they were 20 years ago!

A few bad reviews Blackbarn and worse has the feel of a chain type restaurant but I like to make my own mind up. Would rather have a burger at £13 than a 200 ounce steak at £25! The ambience is all important for me. I can get good food but like a nice night out so will give it a go.

I like the look of Riddle and Finns. Quite reasonably priced as well. I normally go to Whitstable for oysters but was a little bemused although not as much as the waitress when I tried to pay with my oyster card and she wouldn't accept it!

I think the general idea is people go to the beach when it's warm and sunny ... so you have a day out in the warm sun  and   when it's damp and cold in winter you tend to do other things  ... I think that's how it works  Confused
