Khan's bullet-proof vehicle, decked out with under-floor blast protection, armoured glass, spike-proof tyres, a five-litre engine and an emergency escape system, is provided by Scotland Yard for his safety, a spokesperson said.

Mr Khan requires a top level police security detail because of threats to him,’ he added.

‘The Metropolitan Police provide round the clock protection for the Mayor of London. This is not a case of the Mayor having a chauffeur-driven car, either provided by City Hall or anybody else. The vehicle is there for his safety.’

Sounds reasonable. It's not safe to walk around London wearing a big gold chain.

Lol, two folks criticising an elected mayor where they don't have a vote, come to think of it they don't even live in the same country as him.

Shrillby has me blocked as my laser-like dissections of his posts scare him.....

....someone c&p this to give him a fright ! Laugh

I think all Ministerial cars should be suspended for two weeks and Parliament reopened. Lets see how they like it before they tell others to get back to work.

Blame Khan all you like and I do too but when the Transport Minister says he wouldn't travel on The Tube you know you are dealing with Monkeys.

PS.

I find Sturgeon's voice and head-bobbing hectoring style very annoying,

and

Khan is also incredibly tilting ....

Looks like he gets 4 hours sleep per night.

Labour needs to put him out to grass before he cracks up and replace him with someone more sympathetic.

A classic example of fortuity over ability. But for coming up against an opponent born with a silver spoon in Mr Goldsmith Mr Khan would never have been made the London Mayor.

Just put him in a London bus to remind him further of his roots - he'd fell most comfortable.

Well you know what they say about class. It's born not acquired eg working class with bling, bling - flaunt it esp if at the taxpayers money.

A London bus will suit him better; grey and lighweight.

Comical though isnt it ? Boris was on a push bike this Pr@tt with 24 hour security and one of the dearest cars in the world .........

Who is threatening him ??

As for 1.08 to win the only way he could get beat is if another ethnic candidate was to run against

him ,for 60 % of the Great Capitals population that is all that matters ..

It's a sad scenario a political idiot like Mr Khan - I'm not being disrespectful - lacking intelligence but because of his heritage and demography of London can be bestowed so much power; he was not even an outstanding lawyer.

Now Covid-19 has given him another fortuitous gift ie the withdrawal of Mr Stewart from the race to become London Mayor. How fortuity and politics can change one's standing in society? Is that fair? No by me.

The conservatives are fielding a black Briton,Shaun something, does he not satisfy your qualification of being an ethnic?
Or is it simply not that important to you to be accurate, knowledgeable or worthwhile?
Please let me know
Or don't.

5-litre engine - Twice the weight of any other (already basically heavy) Range Rover, due to the additional metal and glass protection panels.

Must be doing about 5 miles to the gallon ... thus leaving an enormous (mayoral) Carbon Footprint on London... and, of course, presumably excluded from the London Congestion Charge ...

Oh the irony of it all.
