These will probably pale into insignificance post this month as there will be no doubt loads more coming in from France; no temperature check or 14-day quarantine even non-froggies will be exempt (apparently) or at the moment.

Yes, will travellers be able to do a work around by way of, instead of coming directly to England, they'll first detour to France and come in that way in order to escape the 14 day quarantine?

No exemption for France: French travellers into the UK will be quarantined for 14 days the government have just announced which amounts to a U-Turn.
