I agree! Modern societies and countries should be fully laicist. No church tax or the like, no allowing church/religion to gets full marriage rights, how to handle abortions, etc.

Religious institutions might play a counseling role in society even then because the churches are desperate to stay relevant in any way possible and will hence adapt and evolve, but people won't be all like "oh, this fairy tale book from 2000 years ago said this about certain things/people. I must follow diligently!".

You've seen it happen and it will continue its progress. You don't drift away from Islam edy. You are all in, or all out. Out means being ostracised from everyone you knew, not many can handle it.

You don't have to rub it in and formally leave it for it to not influence aspects of your life. You were shunned and excluded from social circles or even broader society for not being a practicing Christ not too long ago, let alone leaving Church. In some circles and areas it still is like that. We are getting there though. The secularisation, or even atheistification, of people from traditionally muslim families will also continue to run its course.

You really are too much of a Sullen Saddo on the topic. There is no future for any religion having any real impact beyond some basic soul counseling in the liberal knowledge society we are steadily moving towards.
