Get down with Alok.

Seriously, he probably has the dullest delivery in political history. Add in he doesn't answer a single question why do they keep using him?

he's also another Hobbit. There is quite a worrying trend appearing amongst Cabinet members. They need to get JRM up to the bandstand & put some height on the subject

I didn’t Ashley listen to what he said today but he usually comes across in a clam and reassuring.

It would be nice to have the Home Secretary at the podium to explain the law. Labour need to take control of the situation and have a daily press briefing and explain to the public what they would do to make things better and also what the Government are doing wrong.

when employers are asked to pay part of wages at end of july and 10,s of thousands are laid off instead, what today is quaintly known as furlough ,will in future be known as the largest  dole payouts in the world

Adam Boulton used the term "zombie jobs" today during a discussion of business matters.
And the sad reality is that there are many such jobs out there, the tapering off of the furlough scheme will accelerate a huge number of redundancies.

Are employers being asked to stump up?

They will be, details not yet provided, but in the post.
At that point, big decisions will be required by employers and there will not be good outcomes for many employees.

I am of the opinion that the furlough remains at 80% Government paid until October but Employers can bring back worker part time in which case the Govt will pay 60% and the Employer 20% of the weekly furloughed wage.

Whilst I laud the efforts of the Chancellor on this one I am not sure it has been thought through.

Many Employers will have to contend with serious health and safety concerns and more importantly legal and financial liabilities so why risk it for now?

Many employees are still scared and may not want to go back to work. Where do they stand legally?

Many employers have built up debt and if business is not back to normal in society how will they restore income?

As stated before I think this scheme has now been adapted to prevent mass redundancies for now but also to distract criticism of the Governments handling of this crisis as hundreds of thousands may be losing their jobs and priorities will be looking forward not back.

Again I say the furlough has saved many in the short term but at what cost? We need to get back to work but why would we if we are on 80%? It is an unholy mess.If garden centres, construction, DIY, transport and outdoor jobs were left to continue we would not be at this current situation. Why will some go back to work while others sit at home and of course there are those genuinely scared and others shielding vulnerable. We are in dudu!

Are you not assessing the situation as it stands today, rather than at the end of June? It's going to be increasingly difficult for the 'scared' argument to stand up if the direction of all the signals continue in the same direction. When test track and trace is up and running, with or without the app, that should expedite the falls. People will need to be be laid off so ultimately some with have to choose between going back or redundancy, as furlough is at employer discretion.

I believe that's why Rishi is attaching a cost of the scheme to the employer in some way.
